I've seen one which happened to a 40 timber cruiser...20 tons. The explosion took the entire deck off and the keel split. It sank. 2 Died.

You should all, every last one of you, be keelhauled repeatedly for the way you have treated this boat. No one has really learned anything from any of this destructive, mythbusters-style video series that we don't already know. It was completely and gratuitously reckless as well as harmful to your surroundings and environment to do what was done in this series, including a waste of manpower better used elsewhere in the Solent. I have lost my respect for you entirely! A very bad show.

What was the purpose besides generating a mess?

Wish that had been Bob Geldof when he was flipping off those fishermen on the Thames.

I'll save you some time 5:45

It will buff out,I would have thought, what's with the "ohh arr me Jim lad". I'm not sure just what they where expecting, boats have blown up before and they looked very much like this.

Propane or butane is the worst for on board use, as these gases are heavier than air and will settle to the lowest point in the bilge. At least natural gas is lighter than air and will dissipate upwards, if left an escape avenue, such as an open hatch. Any flammable gas or vapour on board is a potentially deadly force. Complete knowledge of handling is warranted.

thanks everyone great demonstration. Gas is invisible and below nose level. Potentially lethal. I use metho and it too can be dangerous as a crew member thought while cooking dinner oh thats just a bit of water in the bottom of the stove!. So lit it and whoosh. I grabbed powder fire extinguisher and destroyed dinner. But people and boat were okay just. We were in a very remote location up the Gordon river in Tasmania at the time!

bad news for the envirorment

Pah, bit of T-cut and back in business ππΌππ

With an open hatch you wouldn't get her to blow at all, I wager.

Atomis 4 engines are atomic bombs

Hope the boat was insured.

She's been called 'Britain's most abused boat'... dismasted, capsized, holed, set on fire ... and now exploded. We knew this final test -- a gas leak and LPG explosion -- was the most dangerous and potentially costly in Yachting Monthly's ground-breaking 'Crash Test Boat' series of articles. Would the boat survive? How much destruction would be caused? Even with the help of the Royal Navy's explosives experts Lt Cdr Harry Palmer and gas safety experts, we couldn't predict the outcome.
