What was the approx cost of the trawler? I've seen you mention food/marina/diesel costs in newer episodes but didn't see the boat cost. Love the idea of doing this later in life.

Man,...there are big roomy sailboats out there and sail catamarans,...so I'd say money really 😉❗Fuel consumption is better then the trawler too and they've got sails.

Before I watch the vid i'm gonna say :"don't like sailing, the hassle, and bigger boat" now i'm going to see if i'm completely wrong hahaha 😂!

Just wondering how much fuel you have room for. I own a trawler/cruiser and carry 300+ gallons of diesel. Wish it held more. There is a book written about a trawler going down through the islands and they now live in Roatan. Check it out. It is the same make and model we have. The book is "Diamond Lil Does The Bahamas", by Melanie Jean Wood 14.99 on Amazon. We cast off the lines in a year upon retirement. Love your video's. You would not believe how much you resemble our son. Uncanny. Keep it up. We are following.

So you have an Albin 42! Great boats especially if you don't have deck leaks!!!!!Even older than my little Albin. I assume you subscribe to the Albin owners group (AOG) forum . Great group of owners with all kinds of info if you need it. I did want to comment on insurance , I understand you decision , but if you don't you should try to at least have 3rd party insurance ( they might require it when you go to Bahamas). You need to cover at least the other guy/guests if you hit them etc. not really fair on the rest of the boating community. Cheers Warren ...PS love your no loans policy, me too!

Hi, as a lifelong sailor I agree about your choice. We have friends with 4 young boys who bought a 42' sailboat ( back in 90's) in UK sailed to Med, did the ARC Sailed the Caribbean and us east coast for 4-5 years, back to UK via Med, sold it and bought a trawler and continued traveling Europe , and the Med. The Trawler had the space and the ability to go when they wanted to go, without dealing with wind issues. Of course all boat can get overpowered by conditions so you have to pick and choice your voyages. I have a small trawler for the semi-windless Chesapeake too as sailboats spend most of the time motoring anyway yet you have to deal with high masts and deep draft!...... Now if only I had got less of a fixer upper I would get to enjoy it more.......Warren..... ps I have my racing sailboat(s)to get the sailing rushes I need.

Ignore sailors who question your decision. If it works for you, great! I always laugh when they talk about the high price you'll have to spend on fuel. They just don't know. Be safe and enjoy. We're in out 14th year of living aboard. ...on a trawler.

It all depends on what you want to do with your boat. If you just want to live aboard and cruise a few miles here and there, a trawler is a great alternative. If you want to go many miles and adventure into places where your children can grow and you can build a life, then you need sails. Or in the alternative, deep pockets to buy diesel.

Looks like a fun way to live

Vin, I signed up as a Patron but I'm not sure it regestored. ???

Is that a "Crystal Mountain" hat?
-
bullshit - get the right boat and you have any space you want

Enjoyed your video. Happy New Year!

Great video. I used to live in JAX, had a sailboat in julington creek and later a powerboat at goodby's creek. Was in st aug in early December. I agree about trawlers, as long as where you are going you have enough fuel for.
