Bosch makes a jigsaw blade for cutting plexiglass. It will make a smoother edge. Of course a jigsaw is needed.
-
The first cut was nice because you cut in the right direction. In the second cut you cut in the wrong direction. Always travel against the direction of rotation of the tool.

thnx

Good stanly knife, score 15 times and snap, 3 minutes done.

best trick is to use dremel at slow speeds and don't apply pressure. Just have a soft touch so the plastic won't melt.
-
Thanks man. Sweet as. By the way, you wont need sand paper to clean edges just run your sand wheels in your rotary tools around the edges and you're all set.
-
What do you recommend for making the edges smooth after a cut like this?
-
you can really hear the dremel struggling to cut, I have discovered that 130w is too little for these, I tried a 150 w rotary tool and that seems to be the sweetspot, dremel 4000 with 175w is a monster. I say you need atleast 150w all rotary tools are too weak it seems

Nice video, one thing though: I've read a lot of guide's and manuals on using a dremel and they always recommended setting the speed to 50%~80% unless absolutely necessary. Also at 2:40 you are putting too much pressure, don't let the engine slow down that much, you are putting the dremel at risk of burning out.
Greetings and I hope you enjoy your dremel for many years -
It seems to be far too fast, I have the same device and on the first speed setting (I think 10000 rpm) it kills my nose because the plastic overheats.
-
Great video, but after 3 minutes in the video you started using a little to much pressure on the Dremel. Just to give you a friendly advice, let the tool do the work, no need to put to much pressure. This also helps so you don't burn up the motor.

Can you cut circles?
-
Nice demonstration video thanks!Kevin

Neat!
-
u should use a small hose to put water on it constantly

Dremel has Speedclic cutting disks for plastic. Those doesn't melt acryl so much. Usually i use dremel moto-saw for cutting plastics, sometimes those cutting disk, and those seem to work quite nice.
-
Not a good idea using the Dremel on this job. Also hand protection gloves not apropiate for this job unless you are cooking something (only thing you cooked here was the plastic glass).
-
wouldn't a regular (even a manual) hobby saw do a better job not melting the plastic?
-
Sorry thats not cutting its the friction melting the plastic you would be better of using the saw attachment and the edge will never be square use a flexi arm and slower speed good vid though
-
The 575 right angle attachment would make this a lot easier to get a 90 degree cut.

Why I buy a Dremel multitool: How to cut plastic plate using Dremel multitool. Dremel 3000 variable-speed rotary-tool. Also metal plate cut easily.
