Thanks for the C/B info. There was an American 8m f/glass cat,(Mc Gregor) had a single C/B underneath the mast, Hull cross section was rounded. Phil Bolger was another sideboard apostle. Thanks again.

But a single mast is less complicated, cheaper and probably a bit faster in light to moderate winds. We are still in Sydney and planning to scale back work next year. Then we will start looking at where we will sail next. Most likely go north to the Barrier Reef again. I would love to take my wife to Lady Musgrave Island, a beautiful spot. My first Tangaroa Mk IV was a ketch and I do miss the extra options that that setup provides. Such as self-steering, and using the mizzen to push the bow into the wind as a means of waiting out bad weather.

Hi! I just now noticed your reply - thanks, very encouraging. the centerboard actually works well?! I guess you placed it behind the mast at the center of effort? Have you considered a bimast rig? Our Tangoroa had a ketch rig with hollow cut leach - it was a dog in light winds. (mast 40 ft). Where are you now?

The increase in speed is also quite unexpected. Now the boat is not crabbing along side ways, creating lots of turbulence, it can really get up and go, reaching and to windward. The difference is so pronounced, it is like a different boat. The board is 3m long and gives a warning of shallow water. It hinges back in shallow water. The hinging allows the helm to be balanced and it goes about well sailing under mainsail only. So I am sold on it. Skegs can increase draft but better than nothing.
