Sailing boats at Westport lake. Featured here are some of the members of the Stoke on Trent based PMBC, a model boat club. Some of the members generally go for powered RC craft, however the nice weather brought out some of the yachting members with their boats. Featured here are: a IoM (International 1-Meter) class yacht a Kyosho Seawind Graupner RTR "University Club". The Seawind is a semi-scale ocean racing boat, like those in the Vandee Globe or Volvo Ocean Race, the IoM is a standard RC racing yacht, designed for competitive racing, though the little Graupner boat is basically completely plug and play, a case of just add batteries and water, though this example which is mine, has been reworked with navigation lights and 40mhz FM radio, with new sails. As you will probably see, it gets blown over much easier than the other two. Generally during the summer, the club meets up at the lake side and sails various type of boats, ranging from small tug boats to larger craft, with some competitions during the year, such as the fast electric racing and the yacht racing. when the yachts sail for the competition, it is generally done in the main section of the lake, away from the jetty as the wind is more constant over on the eastern half of the lake. The western end, which is where the jetty is located, can be very sheltered, especially if its a westerly or northerly wind due to the close proximity of the trees and the old railway empankment.
