Hey Damon, next time you're in Thailand (and you know you'll be there again) ask the vendor "Ahan jay mii mai?". It means "Do you have Vegan food?". Jay (เจ) is Buddhist Vegan philosophy and every Thai person knows what you're talking about. There are a few additional restrictions considering that it is religious i.e. no garlic, but you're really not missing out and you won't have stinky breath either so, bonus. Thai food is generally made fresh and from scratch to order so it's no trouble to them. I lived in Thailand for 11 years and never had any problems being Vegan. Enjoy!
