"Victory in the Atlantic was due to teamwork among all the allies." something many people seem to have forgotten these days.

Depth charges are so primitive, yet effective. plus the effect they have is really cool when they explode.

Please tell me, are Americans more educated than they were in 1952? There's a map used in this programme at 7.05 and it has the word 'England' right across Scotland! For the benefit of Americans who might not know any better, that's as cretinous as putting a label saying 'California' across Texas. I pity any poor, deluded Americans arriving at Glasgow Airport thinking that they are in England. You can just hear the laughs of the Glaswegians as they hear the Americans refer to them as English.

Must be sign of the times but that damned "music" is mighty irritating and distracting..... military marching bands must have been making a lot of overtime.

I toured U-505 last month. They moved it indoors in 2004, a great exhibit now

Thank You.Great as Usual.

Nice to see this episode. I toured the U-505 in the mid-60s at the Chicago Mus. of Science & Industry which also has a mine worth visiting.

Used to watch this religiously from when it first went on the air on Sundays in 1952. And was there ever a better opening score of music?

been watching since 1952.
(1952 -- Restored) From1942 to 1945 the Allies build a string of airbases around and across the Atlantic to extend air cover over convoys for their entire voyage. German U-Boats are no longer safe in the Atlantic and losses mount rapidly. Rare film of anti-submarine aircraft variants like the Lockheed Ventura, maritime versions of the B-24 Liberator and the Martin PBM Mariner. The Allies seal the fate of the U-Boats by launching dozens of anti submarine "Jeep" CVE mini-escort carriers to cover the "mid-ocean gap" that can't be reached by land based aircraft. Excellent archival footage from the "Victory at Sea" TV serieswith an all time great musical score by Richard Rogers. Get this video and much more on our "Dive! Dive! Dive!"
