MORE DETAILS: The first of only four production hulls ever built by John Walker's Walker Wingsail Systems in Plymouth, UK, this is a Class A ocean crossing high performance cruising trimaran. Zephyr 45 can operate in winds of up to force 10 on the Beaufort scale and survive even more severe conditions. This amazing trimaran has crossed the Atlantic from England to USA on its maiden voyage in 1995. Shown for the first time at the Miami Boat Show this first production unit generated 19 new orders for the Walker shipbuilding yard at an average price of $500,000. Originally built as a Wingsail Raked Monoplane with 465 square feet of sail area, she was converted into a self-tacking Carbospars Aerorig by the owner in 2004. A noisy original rotating Carbospars boom bearings have been replaced with a $6,000 sealed roller bearing made in France. It is 30% more efficient than ordinary sails the same size. Zephyr 45 features a 45' carbon fiber unstayed mast where the jib and mainsail are attached to the same very long boom for easy, single-handed sailing. A conventional rig needs extra downwind sails, ie spinnakers. The Aerorig doesn't. There are only light loads on the mainsheet and once unrolled there is never a need to adjust the jib sheet. This rig is self-tacking and is mounted with silent roller bearing to the dome base located above the main cabin. Every hull has two sections, sealed from each other. Watertight compartments and rigid plastic foam are incorporated below the waterline in all three hulls for buoyancy in the event of damage. All compartments have automatic bilge pumps. A hydraulically controlled centerboard is fitted into the main hull. A single spade rudder aft is operated by a hydraulic system. This amazing cruising trimaran yacht has been featured in many publications and sighted at best resorts in the Caribbean. While Zephyr 45 hull number three has circumnavigated the globe, this first production trimaran has remained in Florida as dealer demo unit, until it was purchased by it's current sailing enthusiast owner in 2004. The current owner re-powered the vessel with a new 2003 Yanmar 3JH3E 40HP diesel. There are (3) 8D batteries with total 675 AH capacity. converted the rigging from highly efficient but rigid Wingsail Monoplane rig to an easy to manage by one person and safer Aerorig with a removable sails. The sails are one year old, a second set of used sails is included. Mast bearing was inspected and lubricated about a month ago. It is a sealed roller bearing and needs lubricating with a grease gun every 4 years A unique silent bearing mast dome base was installed on top of the spacious cabin to support the carbon fiber mast without it intruding into the main cabin. Extensive electronics package includes: Raymarine A50d Chartplotter with sounder, Raymarine Autohelm autopilot, Westmarine VHF radio. Wind generator and solar panels, as well as a 6kw diesel generator provide independent electrical power. An uninstalled spare generator is included. Galley features a fridge and freezer, dual sink, 4 burner propane stove, an oven, countertops and cabinets with lots of storage for your cooking and serving gear. A cozy cabin opposite the galley with an enclosed head & shower compartment has a captain's bed with storage underneath. Large hatches provide plenty of light. There are two Marine Air Systems A/C units, 12,000 BTU each with reverse (heat) cycle. There are two head compartments, both with showers. Forward in the main cabin there is convertible dinette to starboard. Fold the table to make a comfy sleeping pad for a guest couple. Forward to port is the helm station with full instrumentation and wheel steering. Large windows forward and to the sides provide excellent visibility for driving the vessel. GPS, VHF, and Autopilot are present at helm. With installed wired joystick remote this vessel can be piloted from anywhere on board. Owner has a newer GPS unit installed at midships starboard, outside the main cabin - his favorite spot for sailing in good weather. There is a removable and foldable bimini for shade at starboard deck There is a cabin with V-berth at the bow of the main hull. Total sleeping capacity is 6 people in 3 cabins.
