MORE DETAILS: The Chris-Craft Commander series were among the first boats to be built of fiberglass in the US. As a result, they are very strong and over 500 of them are still sailing today. This Commander was designed as a simple to operate day cruiser, a weekender, coastal cruiser or even a short term liveaboard. It is a boat that an owner could actually work on and even maintain the mechanicals themselves the same as they did with their car (remember those days?). Chris-Craft has always been an iconic American boat representing the best quality and construction. Even today, owning a classic Commander is to belong to a great fraternity of boaters who appreciate and enjoy this connection to American boating history. It was originally purchased by a sailor and cruised the fresh water Great Lakes for a number of years. It then sat in covered storage for about 28 years until it was purchased in 2014 and brought to Florida. Even though this is a 1971 model, it looks like it has hardly been used and the owner declares that everything works. Did you ever wish you could find a vintage Mustang or Corvette in a garage somewhere, pristine and unused. Well, this is the boat version of that discovery. The 940 hours on the original Chris-Craft 327Q engines are the only hours on them. The engines, at last check showed an excellent 150 lbs. compression. Since the boat was primarily sailed in fresh water and also has a fresh water flush system the risers and manifolds look practically new. The owner changes the oil every 50 hours. The last section of the video shows the engines starting up and running smoothly. Because it was stored for a long time, the boat almost appears like new. The hull and topsides are clean. The interior upholstery looks hardly used and all of the 1970's instrumentation works as well as the day it was made. The boat is amazingly roomy and open with large opening windows and a wide beam. At the stern, there's a fairly large platform and a carpeted aft deck. 3 Cannon down riggers were installed and the aft cockpit becomes a very comfortable fishing platform. Coming through the double sliding doors, you are in the main salon area. To port is the Captains Console and to starboard is a large settee. The settee back swings up to become 2 single bunks for overnight visitors. All of the windows including the windshield open for great fore and aft ventilation. Going down the short stairway you'll find a very large galley area to starboard and a dinette that seats 4 to port. The dinette also folds down to make a double berth. Going forward there is a fully enclosed head to port with toilet, sink and shower. There is a very large hanging locker across from the head. Up forward there is a double V-berth. The boat abounds in storage space.
