No boat can fit all the requirements and advantages . Yes true a catamaran can have advantages that the wave resitance is less and fuel consumption is less and stability is more and so on and on. What worries me about a catamaran is when entering waves on t he diagonal that is at 45 degrees where the bow of one pontoon is lifting and there is a twisting effect on the structure. Well yes one can design a structure but I feel no light structure in a catamaran can be attached to the hulls to take a continuous diagonal pounding, that twist very punishing on the structure. Yes od course I can design a strong structure but not a light one.
I feel a mono and a tri maran with short outriggers are better for stormy seas all due to the fact that they do not twist as much as a catamaran. Apart from that a catamaran has many benefits. -
was this in fort pierce inlet?

I have had one now for over 5 years and it is true. It can tame the roughest seas. I live on the Outer Banks where big waves and rough passages are a way of life (Oregon inlet and Hatteras inlet). My 22' is more stable than my previous 23' Parker or previous Custom Carolina VHull. Have experienced 6-8 ft. waves in Gulf Stream and did not get wet, not the prettiest day, but you have to be prepared to turn around if needed. If you ride in one you will be hooked as I was.

It is a difficult problem trying to engineer-out the potential hull stresses which may be encountered in offshore situations. The last I heard about World Cat was they were not honoring hull and deck cracking issues with their boats.

Glacier Bay is out of business, the last I heard...World Cat bought the molds and will not honor Glacier Bay boat warranty issues.

Hi, im thinking of buying the grady cat. whats your thoughts? do they really flip in high seas? and how do the hulls degrade. thanks.

You may need to visit us in florida, 40 miles offshore, 4-6, in a freeman 33... Runs at 37K, no problem, I fish a Venture 34, a TANK when it comes to speed and rough water and the Freeman is right up there.. Freeman is on teh shopping list this month!

They're trying like hell to advertise the sea-keeping abilities of Cats, but all Cats are subject to the degrading effects of large swells. Makers of pontoon boats warn buyers not to use their hulls on the great lakes due to the hull degrading effects of large swells...Take a hint! Limit the Cats' use to rivers and inland lakes where swells are not an issue!... An engineer talking!
