This video was thought as a support tool for teachers to explain about bottom trawling and fishery industry. The idea is to present the video to students after a general introduction to the subject and to the environment of the deep sea, and prior to a discussion session on the questions raised, instigatin a conversation about bottom trawling and industrial/commercial fishing. Lyrics: Have you ever wondered what lives at the bottom of the deep blue sea? Where sun’s light can not reach and no human being can be A place where you’re able to find such great diversity Sadly is being destroyed by a kind of fishery Under the sea In the deep sea Hydrothermal vents Seamounts and trenches you would see Corals and sponges forming reefs and from this list we can’t delete the weird fish It’s so complete the deep sea To catch the fish on seamounts a giant net is used It is dragged along the seafloor and from there you can deduce: it takes everything in its path leaving a desert behind It has such a massive impact How can organisms survive? Towing the trawl on the seamount Fish stocks are depleting the ecosystem mistreated might never restore And to this math we must add the giant unwanted bycatch Overexploitation It’s a devastation Under the sea The deep sea The fauna is so old and recovers slow (They need a long time to grow) Commercial fishing shouldn’t be a frequent visitor around here If it stays the same what will remain from the deep sea?
