Pekka Kosenkyla, better known as the founder of Swan Yachts, played a considerable part in the design and specification of the vessel which was conceived by a British management team of naval architects and engineers that had the vision of a "serious" go anywhere motor cruiser. The Lotus 80 has an elegance and style created by some of the best Thai craftsmen available. The furniture and joinery are fine examples of the quality craftsmanship from this part of the world and supported with primary American and European brand machinery and equipment. Solid, finely finished and well thought out the detail is just simply "first" class. Certified by Det Norske Veritas, the build quality has been more than proven during her exciting 7000 mile plus passage from Thailand to the Mediterranean by her first owner. Canoe stern displacement motoryachts are quite rare, but to find one constructed in GRP which is in very good condition throughout is very unusual and worthy of an early inspection. Boarding: The first excellent feature that deserves attention is the unique hydraulically operated transom door--?cum--?tender dock. Primarily this was designed to be a retractable bathing platform that doubled as a simple tender dock for a safe and easy boarding facility when at anchor. It is activated hydraulically by remote control or from on--?board. Unlike a fixed bathing platform the "draw bridge" action provide excellent security and privacy, and when closed is a watertight flush door giving normal canoe stern sea keeping. CONSTRUCTION This vessel was designed from the outset as a serious blue water long distance cruiser. From her chisel--?raked stern, substantial freeboard and partially hooded pilothouse she is a real "go anywhere" little ship. Certified by Det Norkse Veritas her GRP hull is solid GRP below the waterline and Divincell core above. All glazing is toughened glass and she has watertight bulkheads forward and for the engine room. All her tanks are double bottom for gray, black and fresh water and fuel. Hydraulic steering powers twin spade rudders and powered along by twin Alaska 350 hp diesels she is a top end performer for her size and style. Her Awlgrip paint finish has been well maintained and teak decks are hardly worn. The maneuverability of this traditional canoe stern vessel is enhanced by a powerful 50 hp Wesmar bow thruster and stabilizers. In all respects this is a serious yacht for a serious seagoing owner. Accommodating up to ten people, this "go anywhere" yacht is in a class of her own. The owners initial survey revealed a massive 2" (50 mm) solid GRP hull lay--?up thickness below the waterline and that the bulbous commercial ship type bow not only contributes towards the economy but allows her to travel at full cruising speed with barely a discernible wake --? like a graceful Swan. ENGINE ROOM Another wheel locking watertight door leads forward from the lazarette to the engine room. This is a full beam room that immediately gives the impression of being both spacious and purposeful with quality, extremely well finished pipework mostly in stainless steel. The whole area looks well planned and easily maintainable with good access to all items. The Alaska Lugger main engines and the 40 kW and 24 kW Northern Lights generators, also from the same
