Mr Trocha, What is the bit set up you are using in this video?
-
My horse is a grandson to Peppy San Badger and he's bred to do this... I have started him on barrels but if I tried to get him to cattle sort would he know what to do right away or do I have to go through the whole training stuff?

I love this video and have watched it multiple times. Really helpful! I have a nice cow bred mare that I am just starting on cattle and she is doing nice. I take riding lessons and the trainer is trying to have me stop letting the mare rate my seat . . . this mare is REALLY ratey and it seems really wrong to try and train that out of her. I planning on using her for cutting and sorting. Your opinion?

Had a question.. Yesterday I was at a rodeo and there were a couple of people trying to get some bulls into their designated area. These bulls were charging at the horses, there was one particular horse that stood out though.
This horse every time he would sense that the bull was getting close it would quickly turn around and kick, non of the other riders/horses would do that. Once the bulls got close to the gate there was one that would not hurry and go in, this same kicking horse would start biting the bull on its back if it wouldn't hurry and go in. The bull tried to run away and the rider/horse chased it and once again the horse would get close to the bull and bite its back. I personally have never seen that, I know very little about horses or cattle but I have been to a couple of rodeos and have never witnessed this.
Are the horses trained to do this? I've never seen another horse do that. -

To learn more about training a horse on cattle, go to: http://www.HorseTrainingVideos.com In this video, reining and cutting horse trainer, Larry Trocha schools a young horse on a cow. The training methods demonstrated, work well for cutting horses, reined cow horse and ranch sorting horses. The primary goals in this horse training session, include: teaching the horse to work a cow while carrying his head lower... to work with better form and style... plus rate the cow more accurately yet not over-respond and fire too hard.
