This review is right on point! US buyers are not taking $85K+ SUV's off road!
-
Steve - you reviewed the Cruiser from the COMPLETE wrong perspective - it's not supposed to be an Escalade or Suburban. It's for people who want to drive the absolute best, not for the dazzle, but for the quality of the drive-train, the reliability, the off-road stamina, etc. ... AND AS A BONUS, you get a really nice on-road truck. You missed it and because you just don't get it, you have zero credibility. Where you NEED one of these, it's really the only thing most people will buy (in the third world ... in Australia ... ), but you wouldn't know that since you drive it to the supermarket in Maine, like you're a soccer mom.

Why review a Land Cruiser based on minivan criteria? It has the off road capability of a Range Rover with the quality of a G-Class and best of all it has Toyota durability and reliability.
-
Look cheap and under equipped as always!

Great

LMFAO "the attraction to this dinosaur is a bit perplexing" love the way you put stuff Steve. Much more eloquent than other reviewers that just say "it's crap"

2016 Toyota Land Cruiser 4WD V8

America's Land Cruiser variant needs the excellent diesel engine of Toyota. Far more efficient, is quiet and clatter-free for a diesel engine, and has a mountain of torque.

It's really the only option if you want to do serious offroad and rural touring. Nothing else is going to last heat, dust, corrugations and mud in places where you can't perform maintenance or repairs. These luxury spec ones now let you do all that in proper comfort if you're rich enough to not care about scratched paint. Its the desert crossing rig for the rich guy. My only complaint is the 18 inch wheels, it should come with 17s so you can put light truck tires on it which are essential for gravel roads.

Toyota is clearly resting on its laurels with this effort. Of course you want to maintain simplistic elegance and ruggedness, but that does not excuse the corner cutting of the power seats, rear tailgate and just a lot of clumsy looking execution. I happen to drive a a more than 10 year old 4 runner and love it. This 70k baby should be leaps and bounds ahead.

I've owned several Land Cruisers. Toyota has basically given up on SUVs and trucks. My wife and I are driving a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 and a 2016 Yukon Denali for a reason. They're still very expensive but have so many more features than what Toyota has to offer. Ford beats the crap out of Toyota, too. Can't wait to see the new 2017 Ford F-150 King Ranch.

I need more space in third row and option choice v6 engine
-
guys this is the Boss of SUVs and is the most capable and reliable SUV out there. and is much better than the others.
-
And that's why the Japanese companies are always lagging behind the Germans because they refuse to push the envelope and really compete
-
I'm sure Toyota has heard of small displacement turbo engines

BEST SUV on the market. This thing is damn near perfect and unstoppable not to mention super comfortable and dead reliable with a strong V8.
It's really almost perfect just find a way for it to get better MPG -
This truck is only good in European "UN spec". You get twin turbo V8 diesel, cloth interior, off road ready bumpers and whole nine yards.
In the US you pay 85 grand for blank button galore and outdated V8 that barely gets 13mpg. -
The reason the tailgate isn't damped is because you have to remember this vehicle is sold in the Middle East, Africa and Australia . It's also used by the UN and other groups . Damped or Torsen doesn't like sand and dust. Eventually fail. Americans are lazy if the can't lift a 2 foot tall tailgate.
