hi when doing live data diagnostic on a automatic box im looking for torque lock in top gear and no other gear ? sorry if diagnosing torque converter slip ,is the rpm of the engine measure the in the gearbox , so if the torque converter is locked but there is a difference in rpm between the 2 sensors when loading the box , would that indicate torque clutch slipping or is there other drives and clutch in between the gearbox rpm semsor , lol try to explain the best i can

Thanks so much for your video's !

Excellent vid. Can you or have you made a vid of possible failures of TC's?
Thanks. -
Great - thanks eric

Great job of explaining the magic!

Good info Eric. Your video confirms what I never really understood. I can now say that my prob is due to the TC. 01 Tacoma 198k miles and getting a code 770. Changed tranny fluid 3 times and then replaces the 3 solenoids. Still getting the code. Can See the tranny temps going up to 200+ thanks the the ScanGauge2. I think I got this one nailed down now.....just get a new TC ....new rear main seal(thinking it might be responsible for my only leak on this truck) and good to go.

Hey Eric, got a question hope you know the answer, got a 98 Acura tl 2.5, recently on a highway car slows down and felt painfully to speed up, few km further stopped completely and doesn't move at any gear, not even in neutral, tranny oil looks good differential works too, when put in drive and accelerate it starts smoking from tranny area, could it be the torque converter? would be appreciated for an answer

Eric!!!
I am learning torque converter at school right now. Omg I am so glad I found this video of yours explaining the function of converter.
I couldn't keep up with my instructors explanation and I have many questions but with 24 students in class I don't want to halt the lectures.
This video help a lot. So thank you :D -
This video is awesome. I've been trying to fix my car(changing head gasket, 01 grand am. pretty much tearing engine apart), and my son's car(transmission problems). I'm about to try and teardown my son's cars transmission and find out what the problem is. Bolts stuck and stripping are my big problems. So a lot of cursing and bleeding. lol
Visit me at: http://www.ericthecarguy.com/ In this video I cover the purpose and operation of the turbine, stator, impeller, and torque converter clutch. I hope the explanation and practical give you some insight into how these parts work to not only transfer power from the engine to the transmission, but also how it drives the transmission pump and doubles the torque output of the engine when you take off from a dead stop. I've wanted to make this video for some time. In fact I've had the fans sitting in the back of the shop for almost a year. Now that I have the Automatic Transmission Dissection video under my belt I thought I would add a torque converter dissection into the mix. I hope you enjoy this video and that it gets you a better understanding of torque converter operation. Especially since I killed my air compressor cutting this one in half.
