No Inov-8 models in your top 5? Do u guys sell them at your store? Even the med. weight shoes 270-290 feel great with plenty on support.

I've had a lot of problems with the Hayate, severe heel slip and does not provide any underfoot protection. Based on experience would not recommend for technical trails. A lot of success with the Salomon Sense Pro though <---a great lightweight trail runner/racer

Salomon are the only shoes that get my money. Ever.

I will be running my 1st trail marathon St Paul Trail Marathon. The course consists of 50/50 dirt trail/pavement. Expect hills (some steep), woods, prairie, some stairs at mile 20. So question is where do i start with shoes? Normally i wear a Ghost 8 if that matters for reg marathons.

good thing that you didn't choose any salomon shoes but you should have considered some model from dynafit (feline sl, x7) and the fantastic mammut 201 mtr. I'm sure that if you try one of those they'll come at the top ... have a nice run.

What's in your trunk then?

How about Salomon speed cross3?!

I bought the altra after finishing this video. Thanks man I can't wait to hit the trails with this shoe. Cheers.

Great reviews Rob. I've been wearing Altra's for two years now and was shocked and excited to see it in your top spot - only because so many people ask me what the heck my shoes are when I'm wearing my Altra's. Anyhow, keep up the great work - your review was very helpful as I shop my next pair.

Hi Rob! Great review there man! Keep it up! If you don't mind I would love to have your word of advise. I'm running mainly in a stadium that has a dirt track and I've started some light trail running as well. I was wearing the wrong shoes for long time (Asics Nimbus 16) and I need to change. Is Salomon Speedcross 3 a shoe for me? Or I better go for Hayate 2? I strike with my forefeet and I'm 77 kgrs 180cm... What would yoy suggest? Thanks in advance!

This is a good review. Good information. Keep on doing this.

slow down and pronounce and show the name of each shoe. you talk too fast and do not enunciate.

Hi, I'm trying to decide what shoes to buy. I'm a total beginner, and just getting into trail running and (light) hiking. I'm considering #4 and #5 on this list. I heard you say #5 would be suitable for hiking. Would you agree that the New Balances would be a good choice for someone like me? Or maybe a different shoe would be better? Thank you.

The Zoom Terra Kiger is an awesome shoe. You should also check out the Zoom Wild Horse. 8mm drop with a rock plate with some gnarly lugs for technical terrain. I haven't run in the Altra Lone Peak 2.5 but after seeing the newer unreleased 3.0 I think I will be buying some 2.5's ASAP!

I appreciate the production value you got going on here. Nothing better than a little traffic noise for some ambience. Great list!

Agree with you on the Leadville. Get the wide size if you are D width or wider though.
