New to boating and live in the St Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Would this boat (or any jet drive) be suitable for island hoping between St Thomas, St John and the BVI? Or am I stuck with a power cat or deep V? Thanks

Tampa area sucks so bad for prop boats all the Bay Area is to darn shallow
Jet boats for this area I think would be a good investment
So give me a Good trade in on my sea Ray 176 srx and I'm a new happy jet boat owner

Bottomline you have to NOT know ANYTHING about boating, to buy a Yamaha boat. Think about it, put everything aside for a minute, the brand itself is all over the place. Do they specialize in boats, motorcycles, or music equipment??? Scarab blows Yamaha away from every standpoint in the jet boat market. Yes, it is more expensive but you get what you pay for. I am a high performance inboard/outboard sterndrive guy. Been so for 30 years... Just got a Scarab 255 impulse and let me tell you, my 2008 Baja 30 Outlaw is going to see a lot less water (even though it is modified to be an 85 mph boat). Jet boats, BY NATURE, NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE MANUFACTURED BY YAMAHA, are a lot easier to maintain, more fuel efficient, and their shallow draft make it in sort that you can go places you could not go before. On the downside, you can't really take them offshore unless its the perfect day. This video just proved to me that Yamaha is desperately hanging on to the image of reliability, that they have somehow earned with their outboards, and trying to spread that image across their jet boat line, because that is the only thing they have going for them. The problem for Yamaha is that reliability is not really a major concern when it comes to jet boats. They are basically glorified jet skis, and jet skis have always been pretty reliable. In my opinion, and I know its subjective when it comes to matters of taste, but the design of their boat is not all that. The engines are not powerful enough, especially since you can not trim up a jet boat (not yet anyways; waiting for the press release from Scarab stating that trim is now available, since Scarab seems to be the one to come up with innovations that resolve inherent jet boat issues, such as IST). The quality, attention to detail, and the fit and finish of the materials used are not above average either. Guess what? That is why they can sell them at the price point they are selling them at. The articulating keel is simply a band-aid, a "duck tape fix". And they really should not call it a total package, when all they are giving you is an ugly trailer, manufactured by a third-party. I don't know if Scarab manufactures its own trailers, but at least, it sure as hell looks like they do, as it matches the looks of their boats. Chaparral took their original boat and put jet engines in them. Whether that is good or bad, remains to be seen. Common sense tells me that its better to have a boat designed for a specific purpose. Chaparral is a good quality product, as a sterndrive... As a jet boat? I don't know... Its all about balance, power / weight ratio. Even with the strongest Rotax engines on the market, is the Chaparral light enough? I doubt it.

I don't like the Rotax motors, and I assume the Yammy's rev at the same high RPM. I had an older Seadoo Challenger jet boat that was superior because it had the Mercury sportjet 240 HP motor. That thing was bulletproof! I removed the oil injection system, which is the only thing that caused these motors problems, and it was then the simplest boat on the water. Absolutely no maintenance except a fluid change every couple yrs. Another great thing about the Merc is that it was a 2 stroke motor--more efficient power-wise than a 4 stroke--just not as ecofriendly since they burn oil while running.

Lol... Compared to what? A Bayliner?? These are a toy, they're not a real boat, let's get real. 24'ft is not a boat, it a toy.

It do not affect anything on the boat, when i go to the closest marina i never see any jetboat the closest thing that i see is a tiara 35000 why is this? Between the chaparral 285 ssx and the yamaha 242 limited s which is better for weekend trips twice a month?

My fiancée and I just became 2014 Yamaha 242 Limited S owners today. We couldn't pass up the summer end sale and your vids sold us on getting a jet boat.
-
I would rather have a malibu, to wakeboard....
-
Basically everything you said applies to any modern jet boat.

I don't care what anyone says, Yamaha engines are NOT as good as Rotax engines. First of all Yamaha won't even tell you the engine horsepower. Also Yamaha does not use a closed loop cooling system, so anything in the water goes through your engine block. Also Yamaha engines are 4 cylinder, which is completely unnecessary. Rotax engines make more horsepower than most Yamaha engines with one less cylinder and they do not run raw water through the engine. Rotax can make 260 hp on 1.5L. Where Yamaha makes 180 hp on 2.0L.

Sea Ray is the best

Wait, do you believe Yamaha boats are number one in the business?
-
I totally get what you're saying but from a manufacturer's perspective here's how I see it. Yamaha is in the lead in this part of the boating world and can raise prices if they are still well below the competition. I would do that if I were in their shoes. They also do innovate and have been demonstrating that all througout their sport boat history. Look at the first 4 stroke 230 model. You can now buy a 19 footer that has nearly as much overall seating as the original 23 footer.

Thanks for the quick response. What's the issue, is it a liability issue for Yamaha? Are they waiting for more data to come back from the AR192 and see how it does in the market place and performance before adding it to other models?
-
Not anytime soon I'm afraid. Supercharged is only available on AR192 and SX192.
-
Same boat every year... New colors, what's taking so long for twin supercharged or twin turbos instead new sounds that most everyone will still change and carpet that cost the pennies to upgrade... Where's the new dash tech n motor upgrades.... Price went from 47,999 to 50,999 and I don't see why or how..... Yamaha always talking value value value but seadoo goes belly up and u guys up your price....
-
Selling my AR190 no ballz.... When is a twin supercharged model coming for those of us who could care less about fuel economy...
