May 10, 1993. The building located at 401 Alexander Ave on the Port of Tacoma was heavily damaged and a yacht that was over 100 feet in length and nearly 100% complete was destroyed in the three alarm fire. Because of the resins, fiberglass and other materials used in the construction of the boat and the contents of the building itself, residents in North East Tacoma and the Dash Point area were advised to stay indoors. The toxicity of the smoke created health problems has the wind blew it over those neighborhoods. It took Tacoma fire firefighters several hours to completely extinguish the conflagration that started in the evening and burned well into the morning hours. The cause was accidental and I believed started in the yacht.
