It doesnt look like 52 knos... Would u prefer sailing in a monohull ? Or are the catamarans safe enough?

What was your sail plan during the force 10? Was there a point in which you thought to deploy sea anchor? Was there a point in which you had to alter course bc of the sea/wind?

Someone asked how the beds became wet ... With the constant crashing of tons of sea water on deck, the hatches (windows) above the bunk started leaking, thus we had to try to sleep (not easy) in rain suits!

Sorry for my ignorance! Why are your beds wet? I understand the rough seas but not sure why they would be getting inside the vessel?

cwoffroa15: The beds were wet because from all the tons of water landing on the deck the hatches above the beds began leaking. We had to sleep in oilskins!
Alain Rs: We were running with a heavily reefed jib and a reefed (torn) main that we could not bring down because it was stuck in the mast track. We had to keep sailing because we had engine problems and were running with one engine. The boat was behaving so no need to alter course or deploy a sea anchor.
ahmet erdem: At the time of filming we had gusts of up to 47knots and average about 45, it did increase to 55knots at one stage but hung around 52knots for quite a few hours. Difficult to judge from videos the speed of the wind or size of the waves. Ther were some waves as high as the boat was long but were averaging between 25 & 30 feet. I did a crossing in a 60' monohull but as for comfort and speed (we averaged 8.5 knots for the entire trip of 11,000 miles) I definitely prefer cats. I think the safety of catamarans have been misunderstood for years. We found this one (a St Francis 44) to be extremely fast, safe and comfortable.
