It used to be the Chikuzen Maru until 1991, when she was rebuilt into the 4th generation Nisshin Maru, a whaling factory vessel that was gradually upgraded over the years.

Strict Quota control is absolutely necessary and it is also good for fishermen if they think the idea through. Instead of negative rage, try some constructive suggestions guys. I have come through the mill since the end of the war when cheap fish was urgently needed to supplement the ration books. I have sold cod at ten shillings per box and sixty years later at £150.00 for the same size box. Boom and bust is no longer an option because we have got too good at our job and are now capable of fishing some stocks below there recovery level. Please co-operate with the scientists rather than quarrel with them, they are better informed than we are.

I'd be interested to know what kind of fish they are what their market is - are they for human consumption and if so, as whole fish or mashed up into fish fingers and fish balls and other such processed stuff.

I had a Fishing buddy of mine who said he carefully read all 200-pages of the rules on Fishing Laws. Apparently, there is a provision, that as long as you consume the fish, or whatever you can dredge up, like Crabs, and lots of good stuff, well, anyways, this is for the " Stranded Abandoned man in a Boat" scenario. He must be allowed to eat what he can too survive. Unfortunately, this same rule can be extrapolated into going out Crabbing, and eating everything on the Boat, throwing the waste over-board, and it is all totally legal. I am waiting for the first Cruise-line to operate a fishing operation such as this, where the fresh fish can then be served to the captive audience of wiling participants. Because it is a really good idea. Good ideas rise to the top, so even if it was snuck in on a technicality once, the repercussions would not be bad, and the free press immense, and every single passenger would be subjected to questions about if they liked the food. How could it NOT be better food? Instead of wasting fuel going to stupid Ports, thousands of wiling customers would love to chase Tuna, in any weather, just to eat better Sushi. Adventure Cruise-Ship tourism with a real commercial fishing venture incorporated into the whole operation. Same fuel, two birds with one stone. I can't tell you how many huge Cruise Ships there are near Fishing Grounds, it is a ridiculous waste of fuel, if we could fish, then feed the fish directly to the consumer with no surface transportation, or TAXATION for that matter. Money.

Everybody worried about consumption and finite this and that. Ever think "maybe I shouldn't have 6 fucking kids in a VERY populated and demanding world?! No! And that's the real problem. If the people weren't there to eat the fish, this wouldn't exist.

Really an amazing machine.

I wonder haw many ships do this company have to put new fish stock back in to the see.?. Its only basic, if you want to take it out ,you have to put in in. If not........ the fish will run out, crab will run out, oysters will run out, and so on. TH

YAWN ! oh you poor millionaire fishing magnates boo fukn hoo I cry for you fuckwads.

I'm not against fishing or fishermen as I fish almost daily myself. But there has to be a point when people realise that this is a finite resource, The people in the industry can shout about their livelihoods etc, But at the end of the day...the fish in the sea will go the same way as the bison of North America, The world is slowly dying...killed off by the ignorance of old men with money.
