HEADLINE: Navy unveils ship for speedy troop transport CAPTION: The U.S. Navy is showing off the USNS Spearhead, the service's first high-speed aluminum vessel designed to ferry troops and military equipment. The ship was built in Mobile, Alabama, and it's currently docked in St. Petersburg, Fla. (Feb. 11) AP TELEVISION St. Petersburg, Fla. -- Feb. 11, 2013 1. Wide shot of ship docked 2. Zoom of ship 3. Shot of Captain Douglas Casavant exiting a door on the ship 4. SOUNDBITE: Captain Douglas Casavant: "The primary mission of this ship is rapid intra-theater transport of troops and equipment. Under peacetime situations we can also be asked to provide disaster relief for humanitarian missions. A lot of things still need to be figured out. Not so much that we don't understand the ship but that the capabilities of this are so great and so flexible that we're able to do a lot of different missions just from this single platform depending on how the mission is configured. 5. SOUNDBITE: Captain Douglas Casavant: "It feels like a normal ship when we're going slow, and when we're going slow that's 22, 23 knots, that's our economical cruising speed. But when we're going fast it feels very much like you're flying in an airplane." 11. Medium shot of Casavant at the controls on the bridge 12. Tight shot of Casavant's hands 13. Tight shot of some knobs 14. Tight shot of some controls 15. Tight shot of controls 16. SOUNDBITE: "Aluminum is primarily due to light weight. If you had built the ship out of steel, like traditional ships, the weight would be so great there's no way we could gain the speed without putting enormous engines on board here and the fuel consumption and the cost associated with that would be astronomical. 17.
