Though modern country music is a far cry from classic country music of the past, one thing that hasn’t changed about the genre is the down-to-earth, relatable singers that tend to gravitate to the genre. And one artist that is an example of that outlook today is Jake Owen. For just over 10 years now, Owen has grown into one of country’s premier stars. He’s moved country music from its usual realm of the frontier to the sunnier climes of the beach and the waterfront, adding his own spin on the music while retaining much of what makes country resonant for so many. We caught up with Owen at Nashville’s Commodore Yacht Club where he talked about his new haircut, touring with Kenny Chesney, the influence of songwriters and, of course, his go-to order at the Waffle House.
