I can not believe that the navy destroyed (Burned) all those beautiful boats! Was there any reason why they could not have been sold to the general public after stripping and re-configuring them? The navy already considered them obsolete so what harm would it have done to sell them?
Thank you so much for posting! -
Can't beat the melodious minu-ets of Monte Markham! What a narrator!

Could you imagine these, with a modified weapons compliment, delivering the first waves of assault troops in an amphibious landing? I mean hundreds of them. Ride em right in to the beaches.

Why didn't they ask the Brits for some torpedoes if theirs were faulty?
-
Funnily enough the Americans were not the only country to have torpedo boats, nor did they actually invent the things!
-
The torpedo that the American PT boats carried was a WW-1 vintage weapon with a slow speed through the water. By the time the US Navy went to deploy them against the Japanese surface fleet in the Solomans, the Japanese destroyers and cruisers were faster than the torpedo making shot angles very difficult.

Brilliant many thanks.
Who ordered the burning of these magnificent vessels, like the middle east now the
enemy use our discarded tanks, trucks, etc....criminal. ?? -
I've seen the clip of American Dauntless dive bombers attacking Pearl harbor in so many documentaries I'm beginning to think they did.
-
Music too loud.... Narration not loud enough.... Bye bye.
-
There was nothing "Heroic" in Mac Arthur's "rescue by PT boat... lest we forget , on the eve of the battle he escaped and left his men to fight alone without him... thus his legendary pledge " I shall Return" was rendered simply because of the fact that he "ran away"

Appalling audio. Muzak, imitation engine noise and wanker narrator.
-
It looks like some have had their MG ball-turrets salvaged or given off from bombers.
-
Typical government. Rather than give away the PT boats to those who might need them they burned them.

Inch for inch, pound for pound, the Patrol Torpedo boats of World War II were among the most powerful warships of all time.
