The Corries - The Skye boat song with lyrics

We sang this beautiful song when I was a kid at camp over 50 years ago. As I left the church after the funeral of Rob Stewart last weekend (his film`Sharkwater`) they were playing this wonderful song... I cried.

Read up about Flora MacDonald: she lead a much more interesting life than Charles Stuart. She ended up being imprisoned in London for a year and married and emigrated to America where she and her family were embroiled in the Civil War and she lost just about everything. She returned to Skye eventually.

This was played at my daddy's funeral a couple of weeks ago... he used to sing this when we were kids. He was from Glasgow. It's a beautiful song anyway, especially this version. x

They played the instrumental version of this last night for one of the dance groups on "Dancing with the Stars". It was lovely.

Dedicated to the memory of my Mother who sang me to sleep with this song as a wee laddie.

She is currently doing the quickstep or the foxtrot with my Dad somewhere past Alpha Centauri.

I just came back from Scotland & did visit Culloden Battlefield. Twas sad to think of the massacre there. This song will always remind me of that visit

This reminds me of Rob Roy MacGregor the outlaw who became a Scottish folk hero a bit like Robin Hood.
