The speedboat was carrying around 40 people including South Koreans, Chinese and western tourists in the Andaman Sea, between the islands of of Ko Yao Noi and Phi Phi, east of Phuket, at the time of the accident, the Phuket Gazette reported. The speedboat captain was reportedly distracted when he crashed the boat into a fishing vessel. He was arrested after the incident for careless driving, police told AFP. Accidents in Thailand involving boats, buses and other forms of public transportation are common. Thailand is trying to restore its reputation as an attractive tourist destination after a series of recent setbacks, including the murder of two British tourists on Ko Tao island.
