how tall are you?

Hi Dan, I have been enjoying you video blogs and advice for a while now. Please keep up the good work. The ' ridiculous demonstration ' is not so ridiculous, head height is important but are you a 6' 7" basketball player or the size of a um-pa-lumpa in willy workers chocolate factory? I'm 6' 2". But a serious question, river and canal maps seem so basic how do you know your boat will fit under certain bridges or if the water is wide enough for on coming vessels ( trying to fit in a nautical term there so I don't appear too daft ). I remember spending a couple of holidays on a canal cruiser when I was small but I was too young to learn such things. Also when I use a search engine the waterways stop at hull. Surely north Yorkshire and Scotland are linked? Take care chap and look forward to your future posts.

Dan, how do you keep your boat so clutter free after three years on it??

On the moon 🙈❤️

Great job fella. I spent 9 years in the Royal Navy with a six foot by 3 foot berth as my only private place. Spent 4 years living and teaching English in Tokyo followed by a year and a half travelling India, Nepal, Cambodia and Thailand before settling down in Thailand for 19 years. Thinking about buying one as a holliday boat and to rent our while in Thailand. By the way, just seen Tilly sold on a web site so hope you've got another and moved up in life style

Great video as always...

good job! Very informative as usual :-) The good thing about this is it makes me think about my motivations about wanting to adopt a narrowboat life and whether it will be the right choice for us and you really helped tick the boxes :-)

I would LOVE to live on a boat, BUT sadly to my detriment, I am a maker which means I need space for my equipment/tools. I would need a narrowboat towed on the back just for my workshop!

Great video as always buddy. Dan can I ask, as a continuous cruiser, do you have a video on how far you have to travel between places to keep the canal and river trust from opening a can of woop ass? What's the furthest you have to cycle to get to work? Thanks chap

As a semi-retired, non-materialistic couple, my wife and I are very seriously looking at a future life afloat. The great points seem to be: 1) Our small house (wasted space adjusted) is only 15% less floor area than a 57 foot narrow boat. 2) Constantly looking at four walls has become rather dull and painful. 3). Flexibility and freedom to move as we choose in order to experience the outside world is very attractive. 4). A less sedentary lifestyle will help to keep us both fitter and thus, increase our healthy life expectancy. 5). We can manage without loosing anything that we really want to keep, whist leaving behind what we want to be rid of. To sum up, food in our bellies, shelter, warmth, mobility, friendship and our appreciation of wild birds, coupled with our strong desire to roam should all be achievable.

Two questions! No three questions! Shades of Monty Python 8-)
Funnily enough I read the account of one chap who gave up on living on a narrowboat
after about six months because he missed his home gym and couldn't fit one on the boat - I kid you not. -
why dont you put cople magnets on the draw hold it tighter

I've always wanted to be living out somewhere rural, hate living in the city. But with house prices and rent as they are I'd never be able to afford it. Then after finding your channel I realised this is the way to go. Not only can I get out and live somewhere rural I can be in different places whenever I want.
After over three years onboard narrowboat Tilly, here is my advice on the absolute beginnings of deciding if boat life on the canal is for you! Before we even get to looking at boats we need to wind things down to the basics! Help me out!
