I can't speak for the oceanfloors, but why don't we clone the hell out of fish. Actually, forget fish, let's mass-clone sperm whales and genetically alter them so every single one is a moby dick, then we can get the oil trade started up again. Man, I'd like to get lost at sea.

Do you, in England, sensibilise to the space pace problem ?
-
Nothing anyone can do about it, when there's nothing left they'll be fucked and out of work.

nice video - just one little thing you could have added - bottom trawling re distributes sediments - those sediments are where pcbs and other pollutants are deposited - tests in Norwegian fjords show that 3 months after just one pass the shellfish in the region were so contaminated they were inedible - there is also something that Greenpeace should be interested in and that is seaweed trawling - this now occurs along the entire length of the Norwegian coast - it is even targeted to minimise marine regrowth -

people need to realise that by killing the oceans we are killing ourselves. What has given humans the right to make us think that it's okay to destroy the land, slaughter animals and tear apart our oceans, since when did we become god. We should coexist in the land, if we don't we're just going to cause more harm and kill more
-
If u people didn't realize this but if you over fish the oceans and basically wipe out all marine life what happens when there are no more fish all the places that relied on it need food for there people making them a competitor for food and with a growing population there are gonna be some Nasty wars over who gets the food and who gets the water. So u can't sit there and say "that's unimportant or that's only fish" everything is intertwined

Only 10% of all life in the ocean remains

Would everyone shut up!!!!!!!! This is a big issue and many amazing animals will go extinct if the harmful fishing methods used by careless, ignorant fishermen doesn't stop! Fishermen need to stop targeting slow growing species too. Anyone who says bad stuff about this video or thinks that bottom trawling is not a problem should just remove their own vocal cords and stop hating on the few people who care about the only planet we have to live on that has the right conditions and life on it, let alone the only one we know that has such an amazing amount of life!! AND THE 34 IGNORANT GREEDY JERKS WHO DISLIKED THIS VIDEO, HAVE FUN LIVING IN A WORLD WHERE THE AIR IS HOT AND FULL OF TOXIC CHEMICALS AND WHERE THE WATER IS LIFELESS AND FILLED WITH TOXIC WASTE!!

the grand banks fishing collapse- i am told by folks born in newfoundland that it was caused by big foreign factory ships dragging everything from the bottom but what newfies only did was mostly line fishing, which would have been totally sustainable.
so tell me -is this true? -
Lol hippies

My GOD :'(

no i will not 'help save the oceans'

The majority of trawling that is done in alaska and the west coast is mid water trawling for Pollock/hake and is a very clean fishery. The nets do no damage to the ocean and the fishing is clean with almost no by catch. My family has been fishing for generations and been a part of every fishery that we could do , trawling for Pollock is cleaner then anything else I have done. I care about the ocean and the fish very much. I want my kids and my kids kids to be able to make a living off the ocean

They are only showing one kind of trawling in this video that is probably the least used form of gear by Alaskan Trawlers , they only use bottom nets for cod fishing witch is done for a few months a year on sandy bottom. Trawlers have been fishing the same areas for year. All the bottom is mapped out and they are not damaging anything. The fish quota for cod has been increasing lately and has been managed by quota systems for years so that there is no chance of over fishing.

this video is such bull shit. the coral reefs they show would be impossible for a bottom trawl net to tow through , you cant tow a net up coral banks and ledges. The pictures they show of nets actually towing are sandy mud bottoms. They are not throwing small fish back after they have been caught either , come on , your filling your 8 year olds head with lies that you don't know anything about so that she will grow up and be ignorant and believe giant corporations like green peace too.
-
wow trawling is so destructive! makes me so mad to see their greed and how they don't care about how much they are destroying
-
At 8yrs. old, my daughter asked what all the seagulls were eating behind the dragger. I said, it is the fish they are letting go, because its too small to keep. She asked, why don't they swim away and I told her, they can't, they're dead. She asked, aren't they killing their future stock? AMAIZING, a 8 year old child can see the distruction and our elected leaders cannot.

Orange roughy is a nice eating fish

We should suffer what we do to other species, it would be interesting if an alien species came to our planet and deploy a kind of giant net that would skim the surface of this planet and catch everything on it's surface, humans included, to be eaten by them or discarded in a some alien dump. Fishermen are criminals probaly due to ignorance and greed!

Destructive fishing practices and overfishing are among the most significant threats facing our oceans today. A single pass of bottom trawl removes up to 20% of the seafloor fauna and flora. In some areas this happens many times every year.
