SE2 EP4. Crossing the Bahama Bank to the Exumas. Sailing Trio Travels.

You guys and gal are awesome, living the life most dream about. From what I have watched so far, which has been a little mixed up going just by the SE##/EP##, and which I assumed meant Season##/Episode## I've lost a little of the chronological continuity.

What a great life-experience for Cole, who is around 9 years old, I believe. You continue planting the seeds of independence, adventure, self-confidence, patience, competence and so many more positive traits that you have instilled in him during your adventurous life to-date. He is growing into a fine young man at the age 10 and shall likely be a master by the age of 10.

I did want to share a couple of concerns which rose during the videography of the show and these, by no means, are you directed directly at Cole, but more to the family, since you do seam to have the joy for the natural beauty of our world. Ducks and other waterfowl should never be fed bread. First, bread is not found to exist in nature. While it might contain grains, generally bread just absorbs water and makes the waterfowl think it is "full" eventhough bread contains little to no nutritional value and therfore the duck doesn't seek out the natural resources containing necessary nutrients. Feed them cracked corn if you wish to, knowing it will sink, get the birds near-shore or onshore so it is not wasted.

The same consideration should be taken when feeding the iguanas, which are herbivores. They shouldn't be fed what appeared to be flat bread pieces? Here is a chance for Cole to learn something of true value for science during his home schooling. He should find out what species are native to these wonderful places you go and research their diet. You probably don't want to cruise the Caribbean handing out fresh produce to the native species. If you know certain birds will eat fish, let Cole use his handmade lures and fish for and learn to identify the species that swim in the ocean and feed the appropriate portion to the birds or land-based animals.

The best time to dive for lobsters is at night. If you dive a good reef on the full moon on a clear night, you'll be amazed by what you can see without any artificial light. If you use a red lens on your underwater flashlight turn your lights back on and look in the little hidy-holes for the lobsters. Usually they like to hide and ambush their prey.

If you want a cheap way to do laundry without soap, throw your clothes in a sturdy mesh bag, tie a 25'-30' line to it, cleat it off and drag it along behind when you're sailing or motoring between anchorages. The agitation and oxygenation in the "white" water behind the boat will really clean the clothes. Compare the two techniques and let us know in a current video. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. And... You've got to find a cheaper way to wash the 25 pairs of boardshorts that Cole owns! You can even get him to do his own laundry!

When Cole hooks a fish, it's a good idea to stop or slow the boat so he doesn't lose the fish because of the extra strain on the line from forward motion.
