I have visited that private part of Labadee about 10 years ago on a cruise with Royal Caribbean. They said that they bought part of the island to use for a cruise destination, so maybe thats why its fenced off?

Couldn't you have gone on the inside of the cruise ship and it would have blocked the waves? they were coming from that direction. Or is there a distance you have to stay away from them?

I have heard that you can't take a dinghy to shore because they will steal it as soon as you get out.
