I was personally relieved when that bloody engine died!! Sorry :)
-
I've only sailed in the warm waters off the coast of California, and I have to admit, it looks like cold water sailing up there is not for pansies!

I live on the isle of skye!

I have watched hundreds of sailing videos and to be honest I find sailboats are the most unreliable mode of transportation
known to man. Meaning they always have something breaking or broke , these engines on these boats always have issues,
if they were in airplanes they would be falling out of the sky. I wanted to buy a boat but my god what a stressful sport. -
Clyde looks like a Miura 31 footer

How much is the yacht Clyde for sale for????
-
Why have the motor going when under sail.....The sails will move the boat faster with wind and the motor out of the water...The motor should be just used as a back up
-
excellent video ,thanks.

Cruising sailing is mostly a pain in the ass. Wind on the nose or motoring. The worst is sitting there with the main slapping/banging back and forth. Brought back a lot of bad memories. At least you had some good company.

Guys.. please start wearing your life jackets. - great video though :)

Nice to see some film on older yacht cruising. So many 40ft plus cruising videos on here. Looks like a fairly competent crew too. Possibly you should have broken up the trip from Lands End onwards. Seems that morale took a dive at that point. A fresher and happier crew may have been better equipped to do without the lifeboat - and a more cheerful end to a great trip.

Really enjoyed this video, which was well put together. I have a 40 year-old 22 footer, and the first time we left Plymouth for Guernsey, the diesel return pipe broke some miles short, and we couldn't repair it. Days before we left the Tamar my last job was to fit an outboard bracket for our 3.5 Tohatsu. We used that engine for about 8 hours to push us towards St Peter Port. That journey took us 34 hours in all, but the OB saved us calling for assistance, although we did inform the Port Control. Your trip just reminded me that if anything will go wrong, it probably will! BTW, the repair to the pipe took 10 minutes. Thank you.

That vessel that you could not identify and thought was a ferry is a car carrier similar to the one that ran aground in the Solent.

Enjoyed that Stephen, it brought back some memories of being aboard a Macwester 26 (lovely solid old boat) when its two stroke inboard threw a hissy fit, and the sea was like a millpond without a puff of wind, and not a cloud in the sky - a wonderful day to be on the water.
Luckily we had the dinghy with a .4hp outboard (and plenty of two stroke fuel in the Macwester tank), so we lashed the dinghy to the side parallel to the cockpit (easier to hand mugs of tea and sandwiches to me, stuck in the dinghy). With over 30 miles to go up the coast, I thought we were in for a very long day, but much to my surprise, we made 6 knots no problem at all (that Macwester is a heavily built boat too). I was quite chuffed when we got where we were going, with a nice sweep into the harbour, we picked up the mooring at the first attempt.
These things are great to look back on, and can teach us a lot.
Fair winds to you. -

Nice one.

I sailed this summer with an owner who ran the motor most of the time. Won't be doing that again. Ever!

This entertaining video documentary covers a rare voyage in a monuhull for me that confirmed my hatred of them. Nevertheless we had an EVENTFUL trip in 2010 sailing in yacht Clyde from Southampton towards Craig Irvine's destination, the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Something went wrong pretty well every day!
