Hello there, My name is Runne. We are from Norway, I have been sailing with my family since 3 and a half years, This is my wife Ethen and these are my two twin daughters Heather and Maritta, they are both 9 years old. We started our sail from Norway to the Canary Islands across to the Caribbean thru the Panama Canal thru the South Pacific Islands to New Zealand back up to Fiji then down to Australia then to Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and now in India. First time in Kochi and will be making an Inland trip for 3-4 days and we are eagerly looking forward to it. Hi this is Ethen, Of course it's worth to travel with Children. They have special needs that we need to teach them. Runne and I spend a couple of hours daily to teach them something new. When we came to South Pacific, they said Mama you have to teach us English. Only if we know English we can play with all the kids and that was so right and in a couple of months they could understand most of the English words. Runne and I like to explore different cultures and like to meet people. We would like to share this with our children. There is no difference in humans around the world. They are all the same. The skin color is no matter. We are all brothers and sisters around the world. I had an attraction for sailing as I wanted to sail around the world but on the other hand I knew it was very expensive and had to save lot of money. I didn't want to buy a boat as I didn't want to spend so much money to gain experience. So we didn't have much experience when we left. Norway has a lot of coastlines and Islands to visit. It is really common to sail in Norway. So we have a long relationship with the people who are already into sailing in Norway. Those friends of ours could guide us. During our sail around the world we saw many things that we don't like. Some were piracy, thefts from the boat big seas and things we cannot handle. So far we were so lucky. There were no strong winds that could be dangerous to the boat and the crew and so far we did not meet with any accidents. It is fun on the boat. I think the biggest threat for the sailors is sailing through the Gulf of Aden. One of the reasons is Somalian Piracy situation and because of this we joined the Vasco Di Gama rally so that we stay in a group of about 20 boats and so we got more security and the chance for one boat being caught was much less. I didn't really want to travel through the place with my children on the boat. We could have easily sold the boat and fly back home. It would be a bit dramatic in that case as well. That was the biggest challenge we faced so far. Before we left we knew that we should work around 40 years from graduation to retirement. To take some years off from that we knew we need to plan things well and prepare well. We knew we liked to sail. We took it as a project and it took eleven years from a graduation to start sailing. We had a pleasant trip so far. It would be great if more people do the same. This is best thing I could do for my family. As far as everyone has a long term goal this is possible.
