what voltage do your appliences use on board, do you use 110 or 220v, the reason is ask is that 110v needs bigger cabels(diameter) vs 220v , so overall heavier in the boat including tranformers, and power loss on 110v so it's is less efficient vs 220v.
Some say that 110v is saver vs 220v but dont be fooled, 6 amps or 9 amps both can kill you it's the circumstances that makes the differents, both are deadly enough, and what i personally think is that 220v gives you more efficient options on storage, overal weight, and overall efficientie,so in terms of a sailboat 110v heavier(thiker cabels and transformers),power loss in lines/transformers vs 220v, 220v less weight(thiner cables, smaller transformers),less power loss during transport.
I'm just curious,as most boats use 110v world wide, but if you see what disadvantages 110v has , then why do they stick to it(availabilty, more support??).
I know someone who had a boat for inner waters,he changed from 110v to 220v and that sure mades his live easier on board and made his boat lighter (yes i know only 3%) but the differents in performance between 3% less or 3% more, every little bit counts, and if you travel enought by boat,at the long runs you see the differents and benefits to 220v onboard.
Ps solar panels, did you think about putting in 3d panels they think 200% more output, they are expensive right now but are you thinking about changing it n the past. info here http://cleantechnica.com/2012/03/20/solar3d-thinks-its-solar-cells-can-produce-200-the-power-of-conventional-solar-cells/ -
Hi Scott and Laurie, Sounds like you're making great progress on your way down the coast. Thanks for reaching out. How long do you plan to be in the San Francisco/Sausalito area? We live in Clayton, Ca which is one hour from where you are located. Both Linda (my wife) and I would enjoy meeting the two of you. We are very interested in the Lagoon 400 and would love to see your catamaran. We have been following a close friend on his Lagoon 400 over the past couple of years. Unfortunately, his three year journey (from San Diego, Mexico, and South Pacific) has come to an end and it time for him and his wife to get back to the real world. You can visit his Facebook page at greshamfamilyexodus. Please let us know your schedule and we will do our best to get over and see you. Be safe and have fun. If you get a chance try out Sam's in Tiburon for a great lunch.

Awesome video and congrats again on untying the lines :)

Bon voyage Laurie and Scott. A great start to your adventure. Enjoy every moment!

Food for thought. I just took a lesson on a Lagoon 400 and instructor mentioned, by putting the boat in reverse under sail, it would stop the transmission from turning and wearing out the bearings. Not sure if this is true, but I thought I would pass it along. Please let me know your thoughts.

Good luck and be safe. Please mention to Laurie that she can cut the scopolamine patch in half to reduce the side effects. Just a suggestion.
