Any boat in your price range is probably going to need some TLC...even if it was perfect they take maintenance and things go wrong. You only know after a good survey. Look at dozens of boats and maybe look 40 foot and under. Rule of thumb is don't over buy in size, the bigger, the more expensive it is to maintain and fix. Keep shopping.

Geez, what are ya'll, like.....12 years old??? You can't do any work on a boat? Don't you understand that it's a money pit? lol You always are working on a boat. That's just part of it. It's not so bad if you catch each thing and fix it IMMEDIATELY!

Thank goodness.. you knew or found out quickly about how to take preventive care of bed bugs...I am 57 years old and only figured out the old saying "don't let the bedbugs bite" was not a joke, about a year ago...... Really.... What a freaking nightmare to get rid of them.... People need to made more aware of this crap... In dealing with all of this.. I have found out that many cities in the USA have had a drastic upswing in reported bed bug infestations... If your traveling... take precautions.....

Very cool hearing about the process of your hunt! Where all did you search for boats? Did you use a single broker or did you work with several?
-
Not to self....Use a Surveyor....

Take all your cloths and wash them before you take them aboard. Bed bugs are no joke. I still do not understand why you do not go for a smaller boat? 35, 37 Talk to the blue water sailors.

Caviat Emptor. Buyer Beware. More worrying about Cock Pit size......hmmmm guess size DOES matter. '_ Good Luck."B.O.A.T.- a bottomless hole in the water into which you pour Money."

It takes courage to withdraw from a deal. Good job.

Hi! welcome to the sailing lifestyle! i wanted to give my 2 cents, ive been around sailboats sailing now for like 29, 30 years now and even was a first mate on a 1978 hudson force 50 sailboat' and can tell u first hand that anything larger than 40ft is alot of work! for example say ur docking the boat and its very windy, the wind throws the boat everywhere and the when ur trying to push off from other boats or fend away from crashing into the dock or a piling its extremely hard! trust me! second reason' if ur anchored and want to leave anchorage, say suddenly ur windlass stoped working, about that large will be extremely hard to raise anchor by hand! ive tryed it' i know! lol 3rd reason' when raising or lowering sail the larger the boat the larger the sail and a boat in mid 40 size sails in a storm (ect) are very hard to handle even with two peaple' but one person usually mans the helm and points into the wind when raising or lowering sail especially when its really blowing' remember its just u two and u guys have to take turns or sailwatch when making passages and its just u and the boat and elements and its alot of work when something gose wrong, say if a sail rips and u have to lower it alone (ect) i usually get a boat with the vision that im gonna sail solo and that puts me at an approx size of 35ft' so i got a 32ft' but if ur a couple and plan to have company time to time like the sailing the vagabond you tube episodes then around 42 to 45ft is like the max i would go' remember its not about how u handle the boat in light wind and good wheather its about when the weather gets real bad and hairy out that things go wrong' try docking a 50ft boat on a windy day and see first hand what i mean' u can do it but believe its no fun! good luck guys!
