Do the sceptics suggest what we should be sailing, heaven forbid a Ben or a Jen.

A boat is what you make of it. Bavaria is no different. Plenty of modifications are available. Did you fly different head sails? Did you test the tracking? How about pointing? But you are funny, I will give you that.

Whoa, in the last minute I was hanging onto my desk! ...

I like your wry sense of humor. LOL

Guido
I love your sarcasm, great boat i have heard good things about Bavaria.
Pay no attention to the ones who do not understand your humor,
Best wishes, fair winds and foul friends (;-{O Hahahahahahahah -
You are a funny man, you are :D thanks for the great vids!

One boat sailing in bad conditions and not sinking is what some might call anecdotal evidence. That said, I've never sailed a Bavaria so I have no opinion of them.
-
Guido, it appears your sarcasm was lost on most commenters. Great to hear you did well around the Atlantic in your 32'.
-
This guy doesn't know sailing or spelling either. Skeptic, not sceptic you dummy.
-
really why the fuck did you buy one then ??

I Love Bavaria,
we have a Bavaria 42 with old sails and we win versus a x-35 easy -
I owned a Bavaria 42 and was heading from The Netherlands to the Caribbean.
From the start in Ijmuiden till Las Palmas It was never under force 7.
I even cossed The Channel with force 11.(that part Calais-Dover was on the engine) Bumpy but totaly without problems.
The only problem (not a really problem) was a little damage on the main sail because in the gulf of Biscaje we had a constant backstaywind and one of the batons is on the same hight as a speader so on that place it was worn.
So for me the Bavaria did very well. It took me 18 days from Cran Canaria to Santa Lucia so I think that the overall speed is oke and this Bavaria had proven to be seaworthy -
If your regularly sailing in that kind of weather, you should have bought an Amel.
-
I can't believe the BS I read here. First you have to know what kind of sailing you do. If you're sailing around the world yeah you are better with an Amel, if you can afford it, and btw Amel is very slow but the best in rough conditions. If you are racing then yes a Beneteau First is better boat, but good luck in a storm. Boats are tradeoffs, and the first tradeoff that comes to mind for normal people is MONEY. Bavarias are extremely well built and designed for the money. Search for their manufacturing video here on YouTube. And they give you a lot for your $, like Selden rigging for instance. I'd go for Bavaria anytime before Beneteau. I've owned a 2005 40ft Bavaria for 6 years now. Mine is a 2-cabin owner's version with the deep keel (2 meters) and tall rig and a Volvo D2-55. It's a lot of boat for the money. I sailed it offshore (NYC-Sint-Maarten) hit a 36 hour gale with sustained 50kts winds (no shit) and this boat was solid.

The irony is clear for most of us to see. Our `96 Bavaria 33 has been a superb boat, solid, reliable and whilst not "fast" it is a lovely boat to sail. Keep her slightly over canvased and sail her like a dinghy when safe to do so and you`ll have a thrilling sail. Use you brains, reef at the appropriate time and you`ll have a safe family boat. Do I have a tip to help those with problems understanding the boats? Yes, ditch the no.1 genoa and just use the working jib for all sailing - simple.

i had the chance to sail Bavaria, Jeanneau, Beneteau, X-yacht, Maxi yachts, Salona and Hanse. (it was an awesome week btw)
i have to say all boats were in the 45ft/60ft range and according to speed the Hanse 470E and X-yacht 46 were the fastest of them all. And sorry i have to say but the Bavaria 46 vision was the slowest of them all. reaching 6,5/7,5 knots boat speed with 18knts wind speed. althow the bavaria was the most stable of them all. but if you are a sailor that likes to sail efficiently at higher speeds..... sorry that i have to say it but almost evry sail yacht is bether then a bavaria -
:)

I was dreaming to get one, that video saved me. Thanks. What about Jeanneau and Beneteau bros?

Wow, nice job.
