crappy music and everyone plays it too loud

Hey... its me again lol... i suggested 6 foot intervals because 6 feet is near enough to 2 metres and is equal to 1 fathom but if you prefer you can halve this to 1 metre lengths... your choice... then you wont need to "guesstimate" (lol) which is hard to do.

Hey guys... suggestion.... buy some brightly coloured cable ties (zip ties) of different colours and measure from your anchor along your chain at 6 foot intervals.... that way you will be able to see how much anchor chain you have run out at any time.

Bleep the cursing or tag this not safe for kids to watch your sailing. Thumbs down for this episode.

We left the West Coast of Canada ^ months ago sailing in our Cat.

Good job on the waterpump...you've made some brownie points back you previously lost with the outboard gas "give it a slug!"

Try marking your chain every ten ft with zip ties or wire with small metal tags so they are visible as the chain goes out. Count the markers as it goes out.

I think Toyota should be the one allowed to make engines!!!!

Glad to see a Skipper with tech knowledge and proper tools and spare parts, well done. This kind of stuff is getting to be a lost art, younger people don't seem to have an affinity for mechanical things. It's getting to the point where I don't stop and help people anymore, all you do is get sucked into making repairs that the owner should be able to fix.
And these people go off shore ! God bless them.

Greetings from the other side of Florida in St. Augustine! Thanks for sharing your video, you do a great job with production and keep it interesting. Looking forward to watching your adventures in the days to come.
Our 28' monohull is waiting for her first sail (except for the survey) since we bought her 6 months ago. Lots of TLC, hurricanes, and unkept boatyard promises are almost all over! We understand your emotions going out for the first time and hope to join you soon. -
Interesting... Just found ur channel today. I hail from just north of Naples, but I was raised in RI and learned my seatime in Narragansett Harbor, Block Island Sound and offshore. Looked like the Sanibel Light in video of your first night at anchor? Mark your chain in known intervals so you just count off when running it out. You can mark by painting links, or tagging something thru the links. Best of luck with the new boat!! Capt Bruce

Not sure if you have a anchor drag alarm. If not, there is a app for iOS (Drag Queen). We live about an hour or so north of Naples and will be on the water in a few years. Good luck guys and look forward to your journeys
It’s finally time to take our new cat on her first sail! We leave the dock in Naples, FL and head up the coast towards Tampa on our Australian built 38’ catamaran, a Seawind 1160. We motor out into the gulf slowly as it’s pretty shallow in the harbor. There are lots of pelicans watching our departure, but they’re not quite as cool as our on-board owl, Hootie! This first trip is just a few hours of motoring north to a quiet, protected anchorage in San Carlos Bay, and it is here that we anchor the catamaran for the first time. We have an electric windlass button in the cockpit which is really great - it means Josh can do most of the work from the helm, and my job is simply checking that the anchor drops properly, then making sure that we let out the right amount of chain. A future project will be adding colored silk ribbons to the anchor chain every 5 or ten feet so that I don’t have to “guestimate” how much chain we have out. Or do you guys have any other good tips for this? We’re looking forward to the time when we can simply relax with a cocktail and a good book in the evenings - right now any spare time is spent working on the boat. This episode we have yet more engine issues to resolve - Josh gets his hands dirty fixing the water pump on the starboard engine. We were lucky to find a spare water pump on board! Thanks for following along on our adventures at sea, and we promise that the dogs will eventually be joining us - just a few more months and we’ll be on the boat with our black labradors Porter and Lily in tow for a mammoth sailing adventure!
