That was absolutely insane!! You two were way hot casual during that trip. Awesome video.

Hi Seth. Thanks for loading this video and discussing your eventful storm sailing. I've gained from watching and reading. Very useful. I'm evaluating mono vs cat in some detail; can you help with a little info on the Hallberg Rassy you were travelling with? Do you know which model it is? Did they employ any particular storm tactics? Experience any problems or suffer any damage? It would be great if the skipper could reply and tell his story along side yours. :-) Thanks. Rick.

I love the lagoon 380
I sailed on one up the Australian coast A awesome yacht very well designed -
There are foam covers for your microphone that'll subdue a lot of that wind noise.

fellow michiganders?

unbroken bottles are used as habitats for juvenile sea creatures but unfortunately as they grow, those creatures get stuck in the bottles & die. if you're not going to take your bottles back to the beach, at least break them

Hey, great job on the video. Thanks for sharing this. My wife and I made the same trip a few years ago on our Peterson 44 monohull. Pretty similar conditions. I'm impressed how well you were handling the conditions. If I could afford a good multi I'd have one! Fair Winds

Great video!! What is the make of your yacht and how did you come up with the name of it ? Honeymoon Island possibly? I love learning about these trips ,great info and you all are living the dream!!!! Check us out at Yachtmann.com .

Great video, nice composure in dealing with the conditions. Here's a video of a similar sized catamaran dealing with slightly nastier conditions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQ-svmgOxqw If you found yourself in this situation again would you use a drogue or drag lines?
-
Great video...Question? why do you say we are going too fast down the waves? will the front get stuffed? Thanks Harry
-
Hey there. Great video. Question for you, though. Why no drogue, sea anchor, or warps off the back to slow down?
-
how about turn around and sail back through the storm for a day and let it pass instead of staying in it... just an idea:)

50 knots average? Nope, note even remotely. No streaks of foam, no masses of foam. I've seen the elephant. This was no elephant. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaufort_scale

Ho yes. Ho no.

Very nice vid. The only thing I would have liked better is if you had an external mic. and then muffler on the mic so the wind noise in the recording would have been much less. Those mufflers and mics. don't cost much .They are what you will have seen on TV when the mic is covered in what looks like a fluffy fur coat. Really enjoyed this video. I get the impression that the cats. are much less prone to rocking side to side even in rough weather. Again very nice story. Thanks for posting it.

Oh God, this is crazy..........i would pass out by just looking at that big wave behind my boat.

You need to add a wind screen to you camera mike.

your adventures are wonderful, and thank you for sharing them. however, after watching this video and reading these posts, I have to say something. I hate negativity, the nay sayers should become a bit more informed. BUT, regarding throwing glass overboard, I must say something informative. while you are correct in saying that essentially glass IS biodegradable and made from sand I must add a few things. 1 million years is the break down period for glass. a bit faster if subjected to a current and the sandblasting of sand along the ocean floor. but it is not the solution, trust me. after working to improve water quality and the restoration of our country's waterways and such, glass is still trash, and ironically the third most recycled product us humans produce. aluminum cans, steel, and glass do in fact have a higher chance of being recycled if responsibly discarded. yes, glass will degrade, over a long period of time, but if everyone was to throw their glass out into the ocean then the sea floor is no longer a sandy base but filled with glass. it only provides a "home" to a critter whose diameter is less than 2 in. and for the critters who rely on a sandy ocean floor for survival, glass bottles, awaiting their 1 million year break down period, do not provide any sanctuary or sustenance. if the glass has a label, then there's the issue of photo degradation, a process in which the label, whether plastic or painted, breaks down into smaller particles which are not absorbed by anything and still pose a contaminate to wildlife even in their smallest form. being ex military and having traveled many third world countries, including panama, I know for a fact there are trash cans and yes even a glass recycling facility. you are not required to "hump" your trash all the way back to oz, just to the nearest glass recycling bin or trash receptacle. its tacky to say the least, whether a geologist said so or not, to just discard your glass overboard. it sets a bad standard, and argument for the ages.

Seth and Elizabeth sail their boat, Honeymoon, from the island of Caracao to San Blas, Panama. Along the way they encounter a 32 hour storm dishing out up to 20 foot seas and 50 knot gusts. The boat sailed under bare poles and top speed peaked at 18.3 knots! Yikes. Learn more about their trip at www.sailblogs.com/member/honeymoon
