9By 2018, the UK will have 9 of these bad boys. The UK has 4, 1 is being fitted out and will be ready this year, 3 are under construction, and 1 will start construction soon.So by 2019, the Royal Navy will have 9 ships, 4 batch I's and 5 batch II's. The Ministry of Defence is using the Batch I's to protect British fisheries, alongside the British Border Force's 5 custom cutter ships. The Ministry of Defence said that the Batch II's will be used both for protecting British fisheries, as well as doing anti-smuggling operations. They will also go abroad, and escort British warships, like our Destroyers and Frigates on counter-terrorism and anti-piracy missions, this is because the Batch II's are better armed and slightly better protected than the Batch I's.The only times the Batch I's go abroad is to defend British fisheries in our overseas territories - There is usually a ship in the Falklands, most year round for example. These ships are very well made, Brazil ordered and received 3, and Thailand has ordered 2, received 1 and awaiting the other.

it needs a wasp light helicopter to wobble off the brass
-
if the situation changed these could be kitted out with heavier armaments in a few hours
-
Okay.. There is no claiming that wasn't propaganda
-
Wow. And I thought that the U S Navy's Littoral Combat Ship stunk. These are even worse.
-
I'm impressed that a Merlin can use one of these little fellows - it actually looks too big in the pics - impressive.
-
Today the 4-11-16 , the British Government announced that they will be commissioning 8 new frigates,
-
More useless junk.
-
I wonder if something along these lines wouldn't have been a better fit for the RNZN than the current vessels we have.
-
too lite in arms needs a rapid fire 57mm gun not a 20mm peashooter.
-
God save the Queen
-
so good that the are reforming our navy it's a shame about the aircraft carriers but I think there designed for the fast reaction divisions of 10,000 is a good move...
-
whatever you do, don't sail them in "warm waters"
-
I think the new Irish 90m OPV's built by Appledore in Devon look more capable from an armaments point of view. Then again those vessels are tasked with a broader range of functions. https://youtu.be/npbglEGYRsI

because we don't have any
-
cmon these need something bigger that a 30mm give it a 120mm atleast
-
11000 miles of coastline to cover . We need more ships cameron is a traitor to the defence of our nation
-
They look like they mean business
The vessels will include a modified flight deck capable of operating the latest Merlin helicopters, larger stores and more accommodation for embarked troops. They will also be the first ships to be built with a BAE Systems designed, new state-of-the-art operating system called Shared Infrastructure, which will be rolled out across the Royal Navy’s surface fleet over the next ten years. Shared Infrastructure revolutionises the way ships operate by using virtual technologies to host and integrate the sensors, weapons and management systems that complex warships require. By replacing multiple large consoles dedicated to specific tasks with a single hardware solution, the amount of spares which are required to be carried onboard is reduced, significantly decreasing through-life costs.
