All good stuff, but remember something else about that anchor--even if you are not in shallow water, if you loose power, tossing out the anchor NOW can keep your bow into the swell, in seconds, you can go broadside to the waves--and lights out. A "sea anchor" can be rigged and ready--which works in deep water even better than a standard anchor--just a bucket and rope--that alone beats nothing. The other key: be ready--after you lose the motor is no time to start rigging things up, they should always be ready so you can deploy them in SECONDS, not minutes.

just go full speed into the waves and ramp off them. Who needs safety.

Bilge pump on, crashin through the water while hooting, hollering, and getting soaked. My boat likes to scoop water up at a low speed and throw it all over you.
