Annoying video!
-
What if your by yourself? just curious if it's possible
-
Didn't look like you uncleated the mainsail before righting. Might not be as thrilling that way, but safer.
-
;p
-
also helps to point the boat into the wind (not down wind as they do), before righting it. Amateurs.
-
Ok.... inexperience wins.......... next time unhook the main sheet and it won't be a rodeo.
-
Oh, and dont faff around with the jib if its tangled, get your crew onboard first!
-
Interesting looking things on the bows, are these to help prevent pitchpoling? Good idea to add the mast head float. I solo this same type cat all the time, they are fun:)
-
Don't be a pussy hold the main sheet in your other hand. That way the boat won't sail off after a dump.
-
Unhook your main sail or traveler guys! ????? Catamaran Sailing 101
-
A little tip(these guys are demonstrating that even a couple of beginners can right a cat that has a bouyancy baloon on the masthead. However, they may stilll drown because they have not let the mainsheet go flying. With the mainsheet flying when the boat rights she will just drift down wind. If you dont she will sail offf at speed, leaving you all alone in a cold ocean. Your doomed ass wondering how so much bad could happen in seconds.
-
@sailphi haha!! that almost happened to me the other day ! My boyfriend almost left me in the middle of the sea. But if you release the main sail that's not suppose to happen. ;)
-
Cool video i sailed hobie 16 in holland with gennaker what is the name of the song ?
-
My question is: How do you avoid tearing a hole in the main when you fall on it?
-
how many battens are on that sail? is that the official hobie sail, oh, and thanks for the video, very instructive
-
Nice tip, but single handed & somewhat weak, a tough proposition for me.
-
Try righting a turtled cat w/mim ( mast in mud)---a real nightmare!
-
How about righting a turtled cat--
-
Have a long line, get a fair bit of slack, and just toss it up between the hull and the tramp, behind the forward post, eventually it'll fall over allowing you to grab it - takes some practice, but if you're sailing Hobie's a lot, and really pushing it, practice you'll get.
-
The way I learned it was the righting line was tied in/looped around the lines holding the tramp together. After capsize, you take it out and throw it over the top hull.

Location: Taiwan North coast, between the reef, the waves, and the strong current, it is challenging to sail there.
