I have the same planer, have you ever had issues with it. Im now experiencing a "chattering" noise (no load) when its running. Almost like if a bearing is going out or something

wheres ur locking lever??

It's still going strong on the first cutting edge. What pushed me to this was my kitchen I built out of Pecan. I just couldn't keep a sharp pair of the original straight knives in the planer.

If I remember correctly the other screw holes are actually set screws that hold the individual segments of the cutter head in place. I haven't seen a difference in the cut other than the fact I just shove the piece in the planer with out even worrying about grain orientation any more.

Thanks for the great video. I am highly considering it, but I see that it only has 26 blades at 1/2" each that would make one straight blade if all aligned. I see that there are more screw holes on the cutter-head, can you actually put more than 26 blades on the cutter-head? To be more like the Byrd cutter-head? Thanks again~!

I would like to hear an update if possible, I just got a ridgid planner and I want to upgrade it a bit. I see some tear out and lines in the wood, and its brand new. I don't know how fast you had to change the blades but if the signs so far are an indicator I would say too often

Thanks for the vid, it convinced me to upgrade my cutterhead. I went with the one from byrd and am totally happy with it. Tearout is gone and my extractor is now louder than the planer. Real pain in the but to change it out though:)

@elcam84 I got it from a company called Accu Head.

Ok how about a link where you got the cutter head?

I got this surface planer for free in 2005 and was tired of having to search for replacement knives for it. I figured I would give this cutter head a shot. I did replace the 2 sided hss cutters with 4 sided carbide cutters I found on this site http://www.carbideprocessors.com/4-sided-1-hole-insert-knife-t04f-grade-14mm-x-14mm-x-2mm-southeast-tool-si-141420-sp/ Just copy and paste the link.
