I didn't get that efficiency thing. If it provides no thrust, what is the origin of the increased efficiency then? There are trawlers with bigger sails and even there they won't make much difference but at least they can help stabilize the boat. But there are better solutions for stabilization either. No... I really don't get it.

The sail is not there for forward thrust, much like wheel covers on racing bicycles it's there for forward "efficiency" not thrust. This used to be very popular on long range trawlers and no doubt contributes to it's 3500 nm range. It's functional and beautiful just the way it is, I wouldn't change a thing.

Nice design I have to say but he sail is ridiculous. How much does it contribute to forward thrust? Less than 5% for sure unless you are satisfied with 2 knots speed.
