this wont work if the wind does not take out the house the current of the flood waters will
-
That's funny because my daughter had the same concept but designed different. Great minds think alike!
-
awesome, awesome, awesome, god, prayers bs, well you lost me quicker than you had me

I love the idea of it floating as the water rises and gets back to its position when the water runs off. In my opinion, this is way better than building your house on stilts because it will adapt more to the changing environment, and assuming that you have estimated the rise of flood water annually, from there you can actually assume the maximum height, your telescopic footings should accommodate.
However there are still so much concern about this concept but for me, again, we are one step closer to giving solution to present housing problems. Thank you for sharing this video :) -
Will this work in the Philippines
-
To God be the glory for giving His people creative ability
-
AT LEAST THESE GUYS ACKNOWLEDGE GOD
-
Ya build it up on peirs...god would be good with that too...hard to imagine that with any current it wouldn't twist it around and not so nicley retreat to normal position or if floating trees or debris get lodged under it, seams a little to idealic to me
-
I have been thinking of this for years. When I build my house, it will have a deep foundation and the house will stay floating. If there is a tornado I can pump the water out and be protected underground. If it floods I will be above the water. And maybe when the house is below ground, it can spin into a locking position.
-
instead you could build your house 3 times higher
-
Most floods likely don't go much past the first floor. I would suggest a steel reinforced concrete building with a deep anchored foundation and bulletproof windows. Ground floor is all unfinished concrete garage/laundry/gym etc and living quarters upstairs. Safe from Hurricanes, tornadoes and floods while the garage will just need a wash down after.
-
what if the flood water exceeds the limit of those steel piers?
-
Hunk haah your so right
-
Ok so when a school bus or a giant ass log gets washed under the house, you get a nice new selling point when it comes up through your floor after the flood...why not just have the garage under the house and let that part flood like in Florida...
-
What the hell are you talking about? 1. Who 'needs' a basement? I've seen 2 basements in my life and neither were being used for anything. 2. If you think it's stupid to stay in the home during a flood, why the hell is your next suggestion to have people ride out a flood in a submarine basement with air supplies? Shouldn't they just leave and appreciate their home will still be there when they get back?
-
There's a skirt that hangs down from the house in the water to keep small debris from floating under the house, if a car would float under a house the floatation tub would collapse around the car then we would Jack the house up and remove the car I hope this answers your question
-
One thing that worries me is debries getting caught under the house as the flood waters recedes
-
wow wow wow wow wow it is a good video am learing about natural disasters
-
Cool idea but it would only have very limited applications.

i thought of this 20 years ago
WEBSITE: http://floodproofhousing.com/home.html THIS BRILLIANT TECHNOLOGY WAS INVENTED AND PATENTED BY PAUL WINSTON IN 1993! THE INFORMATION BELOW WAS STATED 18 YEARS AGO! Winston International Corporation, a designer of systems for building and transporting manufactured housing, has designed and developed innovative technology, which protects people, their housing, automobiles, and all of their precious belongings against devastating floods. This is particularly important in the face of the floods in the southeastern states of our country today. This patented technology has been designed by professional architects, marine and structural engineers. The invention is called the Winston Landlocked Floating House. The system is composed of telescoping piers set in concrete anchors supporting a catamaran floatation base attached to one, two, or three story buildings. These structures will rise above any recorded flood, and float back to their original positions as the flood recedes. This technology has been fully tested by accredited testing laboratories using computer testing methods. Test results state that any Winston house can be analyzed for any geographical area to withstand floods up to five feet above the recorded 500 year level. The Winston MISSION is to convince the public and the builders of the world that future flood disasters now have a viable solution. The opportunity to save victims and taxpayers billions of dollars is now at hand. We encourage our readers to visit our website at www.floodproofhousing.com and see the verifiable information that proves how one mans vision can solve the heartbreak of flooding disasters. HE DOSEN'T TAKE CREDIT FOR HIS BRILLIANT INVENTIONS, HE ADMITS THAT IT IS GOD WHO SHARED THEM WITH HIM. Please go to his website and see all the details: www.floodproofhousing.com
