Wow, beautifull! Such handycraft, amazing.

Wood? Why? So much effort for a super high maintenance, fragile thing. I don't get it. Bugs me.
-
Nice boat, BUT, not an original Clyde built fairlie boat.
-
Don't know the first thing about sailing...but that does not make me immune to the enchantment of a beautiful boat...

I would work for free if I had a chance to be in a project like this!

Although a very beautiful boat with modern construction methods, light in weight and I'm sure extremely fast. When a boat of this type of construction has fresh water intrude into her bilge and is able to sit for a while how do you repair the rot or wood deterioration to the interior hull and or frames. How do you repair a structural hull failure from some type of collision. This type of construction although beautiful is sometimes referred to as a throw away boat because you can never quite repair the hull to it original state. Traditional plank on frame is a product of the past ( maybe ) but if done correctly with the correct wood and fasteners the vessel can be made light weight and very repairable and would last for years. When you encase a boat made of wood with any type of epoxy or fiberglass you limit her life span from the very beginning.
I believe the work force in this video are talented. But one item that should not be over looked is the method in which the vessel is assembled.
One item you very rarely find in boat build is air nailing even if the nails are made of monel or stainless steel.
This type of construction is done for speed only. -
What a pretty ship. Well done, guys!

Beautiful, but no doubt a long term maintenance nightmare. Better you than I.

A short video of the entire build process, from lofting to launch, of the Fairlie 55. It's the culmination of 13 months filming at Fairlie Restorations in Hamble. The time lapse version will follow.
