Great video thanks! You're right about having guns, the problem is that if you're in a situation that you need a gun for self defence, it will be because the bad guy will also be armed and there will probably be multiple men with guns leaving you outgunned.

I would think you would be allowed a flair gun. The 12ga. adapters are easy to hide.

Is it a big hassle to keep a gun on board? Back in the early 80's, when I was young, my family kept a little Catalina 27 on a lake in southern New Mexico. I was a good daughter, never got in trouble etc so when I turned 16 they let me & friends go to the lake alone.
We never once had an issue near the marina but we were hassled several times in more remote areas. They knew it would take a long time for help to arrive & they thought younger girls would be easy targets. A simple show of force avoided any serious issues.
Anyways, now, my partner & I are considering taking a few years to cruise. We are thinking of doing the great loop & then hitting the islands for a few years.
lol Now we are a couple of old women & would be considered easy targets. lol Where did those years go?
I know different areas have different laws. I am just wondering if it's fairly easy to keep up with & abide by the laws. Do the islands all have different policies? Can you just ask the harbor master as you pull in? Basically, I am just asking if keeping a few rifles on board would be a huge hassle, or is it relatively easy to abide by the regulations?

Why does the woman get to hide? Equality only when it suits the argument.

Hi! we have been looking at sailing cats for awhile. Chartered a Lagoon last summer and now you have us considering a Leopard 48! Any advice you may have in evaluating a used boat? Thank you for all the great travel tips and maintenance info. So helpful. All the best~Sara

Very well presented, thank you for all the info.

Awesome set up brother! I wish it was not such a hassle with firearms. Grew up with them and served in the army so its second nature for me. My only concern while cruising is SE asia and the Indian ocean. I think I will carry when making my way through those passages.

I'm new to your channel and I'm very proud of you for protecting you and yours. To the bad guys, there is no question if they are armed or not. Good on you!! Cheers.

Thank you for this video!

150 decibel? impossible to be honest. loudest rock concert in history is about 150 decibel which entire city can hear the noise. same sound level with jet engines.

Yeah, welcome back! I'm on the safe side too. Never let chance take you. Be prepared. I find that people that are lax in their job are lax in the safety. You don't seem that way, good for you.

An unfortunate part of life is that drugs and hop-ups are a problem to varying degrees everywhere, on every Caribbean island. Islanders hate it even more than the cruiser/tourists.
Great vid, and the peace of mind must help you enjoy your moments in paradise! -
Better be prepared than a part of the statistics.. A small light and a bottle of water in the hiding place would be good.

Great vid, TY

Just found your channel and have been checking out your videos. This video was particularly informative so thanks for the effort! I always wondered why you don't see more alarm/security systems on boats. The locks on exterior hatches seems like a no brainer to me. What's the saying? "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" or something like that.

Just for your info....in new zealand and australia, guns must be handed in to customs....dont and you run the risk of having your boat seized..!! fined and jailed...as well...beware
ps: and in seychelles as well plus you also have to hand in spearguns as well ..!! -
Great video. It would seem that you have put a great deal of thought into security issues and obviously that plays into you never having had a problem. Having spent many years in a safety/security related field, however, you made one comment that I found interesting. You mentioned that you ALWAYS set your alarm EXCEPT (and then mentioned a couple of locations that you DON'T set the alarms). Perhaps those locations are far LESS likely to have issues, but LESS likely does not mean IMPOSSIBLE. In my experience, precautions should always be followed unless a situation makes that impossible. GREAT video though!

This is a description on how we secure ourselves and our boat.
