Nice boat but Tennessee river isn't worth going down...very polluted and just not much for scenery..O! and dangerous! due to manmade problems...nothing natural and just full of undertows due to fighting against the original river..Winds are bad as well and will flip you..Other part is the idiots on that river who make it dangerous for other boaters..Tennessee DEFINITELY needs to enforce stricter laws about boatig safety because as I said its full of idiots.. .Lots of people die on that river. I know what I am talking about so please heed what I tell you..

I finally got around to checking this trip out. You will be seeing a good-sized chunk of American geography from a nearly unique vantage. I love the way you are going about it, just about making your own boat from scratch. I am amazed at what a massive undertaking it is. How much time are you going to take for the adventure? I know with both of you bringing all your experience and knowledge to the project it is going to be a spectacular success.
We are going to be making a 1,304 mile boat trip on the Tennessee River, beginning in Knoxville, Tennessee onward to Paducah, Kentucky and then back to our starting point in Knoxville. We will be in a 1985 Weeres 20 foot pontoon boat with a 1987 Force 35 HP outboard motor. We're very inexperienced and we have to learn a little before we take our trip by experimenting on a local lake. (Norris Lake) Our steering, throttle and transmission controls are all homemade and could fail. Becky enclosed the entire boat by taking apart an old tent and rearranged the panels, then sewed them back together for a custom fit. Our friends and family placed bets that we will perish by drowning, exposure to the elements or many other scenarios. We believe that we will be just fine. Join us aboard the "Sputter Butt" as we learn about boating...the hard way.
