Working up this remote creek in the mangrove swamps of the Niger Delta is this 3 year old Ellicott Dragon 670 cutter suction dredge with 14 by 14 pumping system and extended ladder after being trucked from Lagos just 2 weeks ago. The dredge reassembly was easily handled by the owner's crew at the dredging site. The Dragon 670 , like its little brother the Dragon 370HP, is very well known for its simple rugged design that makes it ideal for newcomers to the dredging business, and with its traditional user-friendly control system as a Standard feature, it is well suited to tropical conditions; anyone can learn how to operate or service it. In this sand stockpiling project the pumping distance is a short 300mtrs while for the last 3 years the work in Lagos required between 500 to 1000mtrs, well handled by this powerful dredge. All the sand shown here, being groomed by the bulldozer in the distance, was pumped in the 2 weeks since start-up. In fact this 670 series dredge owner has been so pleased with his dredge performance and minimal down-time, that he bought a second Ellicott 670 with the flexible HDPE pipeline such as seen here, and looks to further expand his fleet this year.
