Some are aggressively opposed to the idea that girls cut more than guys... those people may have a rare experience where they're surrounded by guys who self harm, or they simply are in denial. Every statistic I've looked up either places guys as the lesser of the two cutter groups, or equal. Both merely stating a study took place but not really providing proof. When you don't have a solid and consistent answer from sources, that's when common sense comes into play. You Google pictures of people who cut, and you see most the results are of girls. That's the tie breaker. As for whether or not cutting is emo? Obviously not exclusively. Some of the most well-knowing cutting pictures come from people who clearly are not emo, but rather just white teen girls. Emo does not = white teen girl, emo = a music type, fashion choice, attitude and general lifestyle.
