how to made this portable?
-
I have extracted the laser diode from my dvd multi write drive, I have soldered wire to the + and - leads of the diode, but when i fired it for a few seconds, it glows strong red beam for a while and then turned faint red until it faded away leaving only a very dim red dot. I have an intensive and long experience in electronics, so I'm quite sure I have connected it correctly. By the way, I haven't connected it to a laser diode driver. Is it normal that it fades in just several seconds? If I disconnected it and let it cool for a while, then connected it again and turned it on, it glows powerful and red beam again.
Any help and ideas will be appreciated. -
do the old computers have dangerous capacitors like old tv's
-
Why don't you just talk instead of captioning everything

so what happens if you hold your hand in front of it? I'm working on this project right now. but I'm kinda scared of what it will do lol

You can make it yourself, just loook and learn from INPLIX .

lol europeans worrying about legal disposal of electronics XD

hello! you use a lentile or is the simple laser with out the lent?
-
I'm an idiot...
-
my lazer has 4 plus and min points ?
-
Will sun glasses work?
-
how long will the laser last under that amount of power? i feel like the laser would eventually burn out if supplied to much power over time, so how do you know how much power to regulate it by?
-
it would be interesting to combine the laser beams of 8 diodes using mirrors or spliters for the purpose of higher energies in order to cut aluminum sheet or steel.
-
what is the wattage of the laser?
-
is there any laser that can cut of a hand easily?

Now you tell me. looks like i have been looking at the sun, by the way not from your laser from a friends. -
nice! I would mention salvaging any neo mags on the burner and hard drive (should be 4) and any motors for future projects. before tossing that is. 😉👍

what is the heatsink for

good advise at the end
This video shows you how to hack a broken computer into a burning laser for just a few bucks! With this simple tutorial, you can use that old computer that is collecting dust for something fun. This setup will give you around 250mW. Wear goggles when using this laser! A drill press would best best, but I just used a hand drill. I started with small bits and changed bits gradually until I got to 1/2". This is the best way to go about drilling the heatsink. *If you have an open can laser diode, take care not to let dust get inside of the diode! *If you don't want to build a driver, just make the module found in this video and hook that up to the power supply. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VrNDe9mpOs http://hackaday.com/2010/09/30/build-a-cutting-laser-from-an-old-pc/ http://www.gearlog.com/2010/10/hack_turn_your_old_computers_i.php http://pcbheaven.com/opendir/index.php?show=42675ie42915fc04911f1f Check out http://laserpointerforums.com to learn more about laser pointers, lasers, and laser pointer companies!
