Cheap laser engraver made from stuff most hobbyists already have on the shelf. At least I did. Visit my instructable page at http://www.instructables.com/id/Quick-Dirty-and-Cheap-Laser-Engraver/ to see how to make one. After finishing my mini engraver, see my other video, I want to make a bigger one (approx. 18x20 cm burn space) but with as little as possible money spending. I have used: One scrap printer ink cardridge carriage rail; One scanner from the used items shop; One Arduino UNO; Two easy driver boards; One 2 Watt blue laser + driver; Nuts and bolts, hot glue, aluminum tubing, stepper motors (pulled out of printers/scanners in the past). The original motors in the scanner and printer where not suitable (one has gears and the other one wasn't a stepper at all) so I replaced them with steppers I already have pulled out a few years ago. Used software: -GBRL v09.J -Inkscape 0.91 -LaserEngraver (plugin for Inkscape) -UniversalGcodeSender v1.0.9 And a lot of enthousiasm... The results are surprisingly good considering the fact that there is some play in the mechanics here and there, it was a speed build, some parts are hot glued, and the contraption will not win a beauty contest, I have to admit. I hope this video will inspire some of the viewers.
