Old Hi8 film shot on 1st September 1995. Records a dive on the Fleetwood trawler Ospray II lost in collision with the trawler Caldew in 1935 off the west coast of the Kintyre Peninsula in west Scotland. The wreck lies 2 miles offshore in general depths of 35 metres. The wreck was found and first dived by Gus and Ian Newman who ran the Islay Dive Centre. There is a sad postscript, in the intervening years since this film was shot, the wreck has been destroyed by scallop dredgers and all that remains above seabed level is the winch, the boiler and engine, and a small section of the rudder, a sad end to a very scenic and photogenic wreck, packed with sealife and interest. To read more about the loss of the Ospray II get your hands on a copy of Argyll Shipwrecks by Peter Moir and Ian Crawford or visit Scottishshipwrecks.com. Happy viewing.
